sounds like cool stuff. i saw concept drawings of the magneticlly levitated trains a long time ago.. i thought they had them in tokyeo airports already? super awesome idea.. no contact with the tracks, just aim opposite magnets at each other and watch the thing zip off.

China was supposed to do a huge maglev project and just dropped it because the expense. When it comes down to it, high-speed rail is kind of like the Concorde. The expense really outweighs the benefit of getting somewhere a couple of hours early. 300mph is cool, but in the end the governments in question have no interest in the speed, and it lacks profitability for private industry.

thats strange, i'd expect it to be totaly energy effeciant. with no wear and tear on equipment (no moving parts) there is nothing to maintain. the equipment is like any standard rail equipment but the thing is emmissionless. the only cost i see is in the amount of energy that might be required to polarize the tracks. even so, being enviromentally friendly i'd expect a government or enviromentalist gorup to support at least a small-scale 'prototype' project
