Right Click icons in Start 11 not showing Jump List or application options (e.g., no option to open Incognito window in Chrome)

Strange problem. About half the icons in the Start11 menu do properly show the full-right click menu, the other half does not. Here are examples of both.

Edge right-click showing InPrivate option (works on all Edge icons):

Chrome icons fail (all Chrome icons fail):

Similarly, some apps show recent docs in the Jump List and others don't.

Docs list appearing for CorelDraw:

Missing for Audacity:

The issue is consistent per app. That is, if I restart the computer, Edge and CorelDraw will still show the options and Chrome and Audacity still will not. At least, that's the case in my testing over the past couple of days. If the changes are slower than that, it's possible I just didn't notice.

This MIGHT have to do with where I pinned the icon -- from the Start11 start or from Windows built-in Start. I've found that very touchy and I'm reluctant to test that much for fear of breaking my current icon layout, which I finally got the way I want.

I don't believe this was happening a month ago. Seems like a new problem, unless I somehow just missed it before, but I think I would have noticed with about half the icons missing their right-click/Jump List items. What's going on and how do we fix this?

Thanks,
Colin

Hello,

Please post your current Windows 11 full version number please. Use Winver.exe to get that number. Also post, Start11 version number please.

Thanks

Windows 11 Version 22H2, Build 22621.675.

Start11 Version 1.31.

I have done more testing that seems to indicate it depends where the shortcuts are added: If adding them on Start11 menu, the Jump Lists appear to work correctly. If I add them to the Windows 11 Start, which is the only way (as far as I know) to have the icon appear on both Start menus, then the Jump List/right-click menu is limited as shown in my screen shot above.

So, to define the problem differently: if you want the icon to appear on both Start11 and Windows 11's native Start menu, the only way to add the icons is via the Windows 11's native Start, and those icons are missing their right-click menus in Start11. So Catch 22 -- either you can have the icon in both places OR you can have a working right-click menu, but not both.

Note that as far as I can tell (unless there's an option I can change that I don't know about) you MUST add the icon to Windows 11  native Start if you want it to appear in both places. If you add it in Start11, it ONLY appears in Start11. If you then also add it to Windows 11 native Start, it still appears in both places, so you now have 2 of the same icon in Start11, but only one has the working right-click menu. However, if you try to delete the other one, the one without the working right-click menu, then both icons disappear from Start, so there's no way for the user to fix this. The only work-around I could think of would be to have a useless group of all those secondary icons with the broken right-click menu in the Start11 Start menu. But even that would still require the annoying step of adding them in Start11 and in native Start.

Therefore, another way to fix this problem (maybe a better solution, because it would save users like me who want the icons in both places) would be to provide a Start11 option to also pin every icon the user pins to Start11's Start menu to the Windows 11's native Start.

Can I ask why you are also worried about things being added to the Windows start menu as well as Start11?

Sure. I use both menus. I mostly use Start11 for myself (personally, not a corporate purchase), but I need to stay familiar with Windows 11 Start and also have to use it for demos, support webinars, and screen recordings, because most of our customers don't use Start11.

Where Start11 lets me group icons like Windows 10, Windows 11 with 22H2 now at least has folders, so I want my Windows 11 Start menu's folders to roughly match the Start11 groups from its Windows 10-style menus (which is my personal favorite style).

Does that answer the question? I do respect your wanting to understand your customers' diverse use cases. I do the same thing when supporting our customers.

Neil, do you know if Starkdock is looking into adding (or fixing if it's intended to already be there) this capability?
