1337... the last four digits of my cell phone number

My boyfriend and I had went to get a new phone during January, and the sales person asked us if we have any specific preference for the last four digits..

my boyfriend went ahead and said "1337"... so now I have 1337 as my last four digits. Makes me feel a bit odd everytime I recite it to people

Just curious. does 1337 mean something that I don't know? Like there are codes for I love you, I hate you, etc.

I loved this one coming up on my pager all the time 666

1=L
3=E
7=T

ever heard of the term leet? I think it may have came from elite. Most programmers, geeks... knows what that means

oh, and 5=S

so it'll look like iis leet... I is leet.

how does 7 equal T?
Clearly the 7 is a upside down L.

So in the end of this debate of words, I feel that the time is short and the hour draws near. It is close to midnight; are you with me or become irrelivent?

LEEI!!!

7 is T.... I've been told for a long long time that 7 is a T....

hence why a lot of people use the expression 1337. I've written T using the number 7 numerous times whenever taking notes.

Please explain a little more. I'm curious. Is it like a inside joke for programmers or something? Something very old?

I don't know where it orginated from, but it's a very commonly used word while I was hanging out in #skinnerz on irc, some of whom I still interact with here on the board.

Leet, I'm assuming, is a word associated with geeks... a different version of being "cool." So when someone calls someone else "leet"... I am assuming it is the geek word for "cool."

leet also sounds like the end part of elite, written in l33t/1337 language

7 is T? 7 is an upside down L. How can we live in a world that allows such thought that 7 is T.

UNLESS.... you mean the 7 with a line through the center of it. Then 7 would be t.

So it is LEEt.

Nevertheless, I motion that we take this to the league of elders. Seeing 7 as T is a great error and can not be allowed to exist.

Long live LEEt!

/me raises an eyebrow.

Well, apparently a lot of people think 7 is and upside-down L... and a lot of people think 7 is T... whichever way, there'll never be a real answer.

I don't believe in having to turn a number upside down to justify its letter. Mirroring it isn't such a large problem though. 1 = I/L, 3=E, 4=A, 5=S, 7=T, 0=O

1 can be either an I or an L

I think most of the time it is L . Rarely is the 1=I used... so just assume it's L
