Xeno factory improvement upgrades strange behaviour

Not sure if this is a known issue or not (couldnt find any mention of it) but when I reseach Xeno Industrialization, I can only build the basic factory and research building types. Ie I can only upgrade existing buildings. Not sure if this is normal behaviour.

If so, and if I cancel an auto-upgrade on an existing improvement on a colony, I then am able to see the upgraded improvement come up as a direct build option (for that colony only), and dont require to build a basic structure first.

Somethings not right here but Im sure as to what the normal behaviour is..

Except if you click that "upgrade" for building, it should auto-queue onto the existing building, and you won't be given the chance to place a new one.

It's normal for upgrades to show up in the building queue list. Xeno is an upgrade to existing factories. You always have to build the basic factory first. Mega factories upgrade xeno factories.

In summary, this is intended behavior. Unlike in Gal Civ 2, upgrades cannot be built directly, you have to upgrade each step in turn.

Yes normal behavior. The devs posted up an equation that should that this method of building is superior to the building of the latest straight out. Of course, those of us that want to go around this and buy the building outright if we have the money get a little grumpy with this method.

Yep, I understand that improvement upgrades auto-queue with tech discovery.

Its just that for eg,  when I cancel an upgrade to an existing basic factory, the Xeno factory improvement comes up on the colonys improvement list (not in the build queue). So I can then build a Xeno factory directly on a blank improvement tile without needing to build the basic factory first.

Additionally, the cost of upgrading an existing structure seems to the be  same as that for building from scratch.

Either way, it seems to me that there is an bug here.

Yeah, the cost thing might be an issue.

Actually you can't. It may seem from the UI that you can, but if you try to build on the blank space, the Xeno Factory icon still only goes over the upgradable factory. At least that's what happened when I tried it last week.

It's also what happened when I tried a few minutes ago, attempting to reproduce the OP's issue.

Are you doing anything else to generate this bug, OP?

No your both correct. Previously, I stopped once the option to build xeno factory became visible in the improvements list, retried this and found exactly what you describe. It seems like its behaving as mentioned, but it is a little clunky in its behaviour.

I do feel the cost to upgrade is way too high, with Xeno factory perhaps it should have been +15 to upgrade instead of +45 (ie so the total cost of basic factory and Xeno combined is 45 as opposed to 75 as it now stands

I do agree with this. I ran some optimization exercises a while back and determined that the upgrades are often not that great. If you can't buy them, its often not worth spending manu on them....especially for a science world.

Although this is a "Feature" not a bug, I did point out before the release during Beta 5/6 that only allowing building of the base building then auto-upgrading it was certain to confuse a lot of new players.
