OT: And speaking of games: Neverwinter Nights anyone?

As I imagine that there are probably some old pen and paper DnD'ers around here, has anyone bought/plan on buying NWN?

For those that don't know its Bioware's latest PC RPG game that uses the latest DND 3rd edition rules.

The big hoopla regarding this game is that it's the first attempt to capture the PnP DnD experience by:

1. being extensible by adding Dnd Modules
2. Comes with a module/world making environment for creating your own Dnd Modules (GUI environment, also uses scripting version of "C.
3. Games can be played without or with a live Dungeon Master
3. Has a separate Dungeon Master Client
4. supports up to 64 people

I've only just started going through the tutorial but haven't had any large blocks of time to devote to the game. What's nice is that it runs really well on my 750MHZ computer (unlike the more graphically fancy piggish games like MorrowWind).

Looks to be a lot of online activity/community/world-building with this game.

Sure it won't replace the days of sitting around the table with your friends and cases of soda, nachos and pizza, but its a step in the right direction.

/me locked his dice away long long ago.
I still have my AD&D Players Guide, Monster Manuel, DM's guide and I think I still have my Fiends Folio.

Did anyone else use the ICE rules?

i still have all my old stuff. virtually every edition of the rules except the ancient and famed 'little brown books.' man, i must have like 50 or 60 dnd books.. wow. of course i dm'd steady for about 15 years.

griffinme - do you have one of the -old- fiend folios with cthulhu, elric, etc.? also, yeah i integrated part of the ice rules into my game. it wasn't really standard dnd, as it combined dnd, call of cthulhu, merp, and a lot of rules i wrote myself. it must have worked - years later my old players were emailing me, offering me money to continue playing over the net

if i had the time to invest, i would definitely get back into my old game with neverwinter nights.

I've got all books, Basic D&D, Advanced DnD, modules up the wazoo.
I remember my very first D&D game. It lasted 5 minutes. Opened the door to the dungeon and got killed by an orc. Didn't even make it in. Ahh, but what a glorious 5 minutes they were...

I'm hoping some friends get into Neverwinter Nights as I miss the comraderie of the original game. Its tough now that everyone's spread out all over the place. It'd be a logistical pain to hold a regular pen and paper D&D game.

It's the next game that I plan on purchasing, once I finish making my way through Morrowind.

I still play Dungeons & Dragons. I play with a group of friends - we get together once every two weeks for a game of AD&D (2nd Edition). It's mainly an excuse to socialize and get together, but we have managed to work our way up from 1st level to 7th and 8th level characters. We have a really great DM who is absolutely wonderful and we have a lot of fun with it. I even got my husband to start playing!

I currently play an 8th level half-elf female Paladin named Caitlin. She is loads of fun to play. Not terribly bright, but very strong (18/77) and very beautiful (18 charisma, 18 comeliness). Very much a 'dumb blonde' but a very strong one.

That said, I am looking forward to Neverwinter Nights. I just need to finish up Morrowind first!

I wish I could play Morrowind but I'm afraid that my comp. won't be able to handle it (750MHZ, GF2). I might give it a go eventuallly though.

I once had a fighter who had a pathological fear of Kobolds...I miss him.

Admin migellito "do you have one of the -old- fiend folios with cthulhu, elric, etc.?"

Wasn't that the "Dieties & Demi-gods" book?

Wow. I got the Dieties and Demi-Gods book somewhere in the actic. I'd forgotten all about Elric and the Lovecraft stuff. Was there any other "superstar" guest appearences in that book. I don't remember.

They had the King Arthour(sp) and the Knights of the Round Table. Beyound that, I don't remember.

I do know there was an issue of Dragon Magazine that listed stats for many famous characters like:
John Carter of Mars
Gandalf
Aragorn

There were about 50 some characters listed. I thought it was way off though. They did things like made Gandalf a 9th level magic-user.
