Why so few players online ?

Frogboy says sales near 100K, and that most can connect.

This is a multiplayer game, no one would buy it just to play the non-existent single player.

When I log in I see 10-15 open games, typically. Maybe twice that number ongoing games.

Say 200 players at any given time -> maybe total 2000-4000 active players at all times.

Doesn't seem to add up.

There's a lot more than twice in ongoing games. You are also neglecting Pantheon and Skirmish.

Games boring to me now, maybe I overplayed it? I was expecting more like Dota. :(

I can never play.  Simple as that.  I log in, and try to play Pantheon games, but after 20 minutes of nothing happening, I give up and go play something else.  Usually what happens is "The matchmaking service has failed" or I cannot connect to someone, or someone else cannot connect to another person, etc.  So you hit cancel and try again, and again, and again and oops the game crashed and I have to alt-ctrl-delete and end it, and then reload it and try again.

After working all day, who wants to spend their free time dealing with that?  And it is too bad, as originally I was able to get into the odd game.  Most were 1v2 or 1v1 or 2v2 ai or some mix, but now, after those last two updates, I cannot even get into a single game unless its filled with ai, which I believe happened once.

I cannot forward ports, I have no control over opening ports or closing ports.  My ISP handles that, and I require a user name/ password to edit these settings, which I do not have.  Before Demigod came along this was never a problem.  I have been with this ISP for years, and this is the first game that has caused me such grief.  Whether it's my ports or the game I am not sure, so I do not want to point blame at anyone.  I am just saying that I imagine because I am experiencing this problem, many other people are to.  Who wants to play when you have to deal with that?  There are a plethora of other gaming options available where one does not have to deal with this.

The kicker for me, the reason why I stick around and keep trying to play, is that I enjoy the game and really want to play, I just can't.

what times are you playing?

It's a little sparse at the moment. You have GameRanger, Himachi and Demigod itself all splitting the player base. The new patch seems to work quite well though, so I would estimate seeing a lot more people in the coming weeks as the advertising train begins to roll out and DG begins more international distribution.

I can't play anymore after the last patch, and I know some ppl are having the same issue

I only play PANTHEON or SKIRMISH.

because Randomness in game make-up = BETTER

I actually discovered DOTA *after* demigod, kept wondering what everyone was yappin' about and lo n' behold.

I also love DOTA, holding off on demigod for now, until a few patches..

Same with Empire Total war, and DOW2 though.. :P

Very few people from the "general public" are willing to put up with connection issues, most of them probably tried it then said fuck it when it didn't work for them.

Also, I think you'd be surprised how many people would buy a game like Demigod for the Single Player.

Only the minority of dedicated or competitive players are persisting through the issues and sticking with it, it's that simple. I'm hoping the EU release on Friday boosts the numbers up a lot, especially because by then most people will be able to connect fine.

I'm pretty sure the game is as good as dead. Ressurecting a game after you failed in the beginning is pretty hard, and if you don't do it fast enough the general public will have already moved on. I doubt Demigod will ever get big.

Why so few players online
End of quote

Most players are rage quitters who are now on a ban list...

I can't connect either, but assuming 70% can ( = ~ 70,000 players ), it's still weird they don't.

It was actually down for a period last night. It's usually fine - with the new patch even been getting regular aussie 4v4 games which owns

Don't forget to take Lan games into account for the multiplayer calculations; we play Lan here the majority of the time.  I'm sure if Lan games showed up listed in the MP lobby, you'd see pages and pages of games. . .

Remember once custom games are launched, you can not see them as well.

I never wait longer than 5 minutes to get 6 people who can connect to each other for a 3v3. Even at the wee hours of the night.

I wouldn't doubt there are a lot of games. I have a ton of random people on my friendlist that keep adding themselves and most of them are online during th same hour I am, but I almost never see them in games that I'm in.
