BootSkin - not being maintained anymore? Is there a replacement?

Looking around for more theme stuff - and is it just me, or is BootSkin no longer being maintained? It's not a choice in Impulse, and I had to dig a bit to find it.

Is there a replacement, or has Stardock simply given up on allowing that part of the OS to be skinned?

Bootskin was never really maintained.  IT never worked consistantly enough to release it as a product.  it's unsupported and "use at your own risk".

Having said that . . we in the community (including Stardock Support) will help if you have problems.

I've heard there's a BootVista (for lack of a better term) in the works ..  but I gather it's a low priority and has no release date.

Okay, I guess I won't use it. Tried it on my XP virtual machine, and I had to go to safe mode and uninstall it. Not worth it IMHO. I just won't skin that part.

It all depends on the BIOS . . for some it works for others . . not so much.
For the length of time I see the bootskin . . not a big deal either.

Not so much about 'giving up' as the fundamental issue of so many variations of BIOS ....there'd be too many vers of the proggy to suit...and in reality not enough 'company BIOS vers' to enable testing/development.

There are about 3 vers.....if none work for you then it's a 'no-go', I'm afraid...;)

Jafo and Zubaz have it coverd here. However I did want to mention that BootVista might never be released for close to the same reasons. The main reason for right now though is the updated dlls in the Vista SP1. If these problems can't be fixed it will simply not be released. Just letting people know so that no one gets their hopes up to be let down if this does end up being the case.

It is a choice in my impulse... I wonder why you guys don't have it... and as for performance issues... I've never had any... it's worked great on every computer I've had since it was out... I've used it since it was in beta...

The nice this is that there are three versions of BS adn any one might work.  And if it doiesn't you can always boot into safe mode and reest it.

Have fun and happy hunting.
