Minor Races

There should be if there isn't a hit to your good/evil rating if you just conqure one because you like their planet, at least the same as if you made one of the evil choices on one of the pop ups you occasionally get when you find a planet or random events. I can't find my good evil rating to be sure but I captured 3 minor races because they had better planets and didn't seem to effect my good rating with my good friends.... meaning same alignment friends or other independents that might be in danger.

if every war you declare your good alignment should be lowered probably there would be a great unbalancement between good and evil alignment, and remember that good choice imply so hard choices for now.Anyway i agree with you in principle

You can find your exact alignment on the graphs screen. There's a "government and allignment" tab.

I wouldn't mind more in-game events impacting alignment, as now it's only the ethical interludes that do so, but I don't really want war declarations on that list.

I remember Stardock saying for GalCiv I though that it's just assumed that your empire believes the reasons you are declaring war are for the greater good in the long run.

Wouldn't it be natural to have your alignment affected based on who you went to war with? A war monger who gobbles up minor planets, (or in real life a nation that swallows up smaller neighbors, ie: Nazi Germany, Napolean etc...) would lean toward the evil side . Another dynamic could be who you forge alliances with, because really, you are a reflection of who you associate with.......

I think the alliance thing is in the game if your good evil races dont like you so no alliances .... and really I'm talking about declaring war or gobbling up minor plantes since they seem to be relativly undefended and easy to take. Maybe declaring war on a good race makes you more evil and declaring war on an evil race makes you more good. Would be an interesting formula to play with.

Or maybe a more recent example is the USA's pre-emptive strike on Afghanistan, Iraq and (soon to be) Iran. Should there be a hit to the USA's Good/Evil alignment?

naw they hit us first 911, its a global thing that can trancend boarders, and probably will. When you can get that worked up over a cartoon. It will have to be dealt with by society at some point.

Just to keep it simple

The "good" allied nations of world war 2 had been conquering nations and suppressing native populations for quite some time before the rise of the axis powers. In a historical context even "good" nations go to war fairly often.

As for who you ally with determining alignment, during WWII we allied with the Soviet Union, a country which had killed more of its own citizens just recently than hitler would kill in his concentration camps and had just invaded poland and finland. One could call this "evil". Does this mean we were made slightly less "good" by allying with them or does this mean we were just looking for convenient allies? I would suggest the later.
