Moving fences moves single desktop icons as well causing chaos

Hi,

with the version 5 and the "store my layout on a per-monitor-configuration basis" feature, you fixed a lot of previous issues with the multi-monitor setup on my end. So thank you.

However, there is one issue still. The new version moves icons directly on the desktop "out of the way" when dragging fences over them. Which in itself is crappy as you might want to just rearrange the fences, and leave the rest untouched, but if you come remotely close the icon wanders away.

This causes even more issues on my multi-monitor setup. For whatever reason, when waking up, Windows doesn't recognize both monitors immediately at the same time, but seems to recognize one first, then a second later the other. Now Fences puts all fences and icons on the first awakened monitor, then realizes there is a second monitor, and moves the correct fences over to the second. It actually moves them, which in return causes the single desktop icons to move out of the way. So in the end, all fences are at their correct location and layout, but the single desktop icons are all grouped in the middle between both monitors.

Obviously I can always restore yesterdays layout backup (because sometimes todays backup is wrong too), but it's just annoying.

PS I wanted to report the non-functioning "automatic rollup at screen border" as well, but it looks like it is a known issue.

PPS I am on version 5.84 with Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (19045.5073).

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Lets look into once issue at a time please. It will cut down the confusion. For the first issue. The issue with Windows "Auto arrange icons" turn on or off? I can not reproduce the issue if I have "Auto arrange icons" turn on.

Thank you.

Sure thing, Basj. Thank you. No, I have "auto arrange icons" always turned off, as I would not be able to have single icons on the right side of the desktop then. And I guess with auto arrange icons turned on, Windows would always "fix" the icon placement, so if Fences moves them away or aside, Windows moves them back in place, maybe not in the same order though.

Just for additional information, that's what a daily layout backup looks like when the issue occurred, meaning one monitor was faster than the other and apparently the backup happens right in the middle of it. Previous layout backups are always fine, I guess they are taken multiple times throughout use.

I also noticed the issue not only occurs after waking Windows up again, but also when I switch from one Windows user to the other on this same machine (everyone in our family has his/her own account on it).

Once you on Fences v5.86, please turn on Advanced Logging as mentioned here: (Reply#16) https://forums.stardock.com/531354/get;3947484. Try to reproduce the issue a couple of time and than create an Error report package as mentioned in that linked post.

Unfortunately with the installation via Object Desktop Insider, I ran into this issue again. I'll have to re-install once more and will give feedback on the issue shortly.

Please try download the installer directly from your account product download page here: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products.

Hello Basj,

I keep testing but so far version 5.8.6.4 seems to have fixed the issue on the multi-monitor setup, at least I did not come across the distorted setup after a wake-up until now. I keep trying.

It also fixed the issue of the "automatic rollup at screen border" on a very quick test, again I'll keep trying.

The only topic remaining, and that might be on purpose, is the single icons moving immediately out of the way when dragging fences. This is just annoying when you want to place fences somewhere else without destroying your remaining setup. It might be better if they only move out of the way if you hover with a fence over them for a little while (so that a drag over does not disturb) or drop the fence in their location.
