I took a chance and instead of purging I just uninstalled through Windows. I did get a message that a couple of .dll files couldn't be deleted, I just hit ignore and finished the uninstall. Then rebooted the computer and reinstalled version 3.09 and it worked fine. I think preserving the .dll files actually helped since the reinstall restored all my previous settings so it is just like I never installed the update in the first place.
I will not be installing this update again until it is truly fixed. I had the same problem with Explorer crashing continually when i first installed the update as a beta, still having the same issue with the presumable stable install. Apparently it's not so stable after all based on the complaints here.
My problem with this approach is that I cannot uninstall Fences (3.09), whether that is by trying to uninstall through Windows:
OR trying to install 3.12-j75 (for example):
and, after cancelling, the final error message before exit is:
Checking my Program files, i can find within Fences the lua5.1.dll file highlighted above (327KB) dated 15/03/2020
I do have an Uninstall folder in Fences, which contains JUST uninstall.dat (428KB) dated today, plus a separate file in Fences called 1xuninstall.cmd (1KB) dated 31/08/2015.
There is also uninstall.exe (1357KB) dated today, which I imagine SHOULD be the one to use, but when I click on it (even 'as Administrator') I get:
Can anyone help me to repair this issue, before I try to recover/reinstate my many missing fences?
Thanks
