Should bombers have to reload at some point

Massive amounts of bombers seem to be a very viable strategy when playing online.  They also allow you to snipe even the best capital ship pretty quickly, which kind of stinks...

What about making it so that bombers had a limited number of shots they could fire before they had to return to the carrier to reload?  To compensate for them having to do this, perhaps their bombs could be more powerfull given that afterwards they will have to go land and then wait a short time to reload and relaunch.  The exact number of shots they could take and the damage would need to be play tested.

What do you think?  Would this make the game more fun or detract from the game?

This probably wouldn't help, because the bomber isn't a longevity unit to begin with, it's a shock unit that gets in a few devastating strike runs before the enemy can counter them.  It would add a lot of complexity without solving the underlying issue.

I'm firmly in the camp that believes the solution to bombers is a buff to fighters.

That would probably be a good thing.  I have tried countering large amounts of bombers with large amounts of fighters, but it wasn't that effective (last time I tried it a long time ago...).

What if fighters/bombers had some special abilities/weapons that were limited in shots and couldn't be refreshed till they landed and reloaded?

While I REALLY want strikecraft to be allowed to have active abilities for modding reasons, I don' think that is a good idea for balance purposes. Strikecraft do not last long and are regenerated for free, and each time a strikecraft is rebuilt is can then immediately use that ability/weapon.

I also think it falls under the "It makes the game more complicated than it adds to strategic depth". Sins is at hard a more strategic game, and having to worry about ammo and fuel for example are really more suited for tactical simulations.

Again it doesn't fix the initial shock effect from bombers. That is why they exist. They hit hard, break up the formation or destroy a critical target then are no longer needed as the rest of the fleet pounds in. To be countered like you want they need to be stopped before they reach the target. I agree with Darvin3, buff the fighters/flak frigates that can go out to meet them before they reach the target.
