Tangle Web..ahhhhh....

Just had a 35 round battle that went thus (I had my soverign against the spiders on a level 3 quest).

First round I kill on with fireballs, they close on me.

Second round I kill one more and injury another, they tangle web me.

Rest of battle I'm tangle webbed, they very ocassionally hit me but it doesn't matter since every time it wears off they we cast tangle web.

Result the next 33 turns I can do nothing, until the tiny ocassional amounts of damage kill me.

Tangle web needs to be resistable or have a call down longer than it's duration.

Or not. You just need to bring more units, more champions,

Maybe we need spells against those Save or Suck effects: Freedom of Movement, for instance, would make you immune to Slow, Pull of the Earth, and web...

Oh dear lord I hope not. I don't think there's anything in the world less inspired than those. Cast Y for awesome, cast X to counter. YXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYXYfuckit.

this should be fixed but in all honesty, why are you walking around with your sov on his own?

That's asking for trouble.

You shouldn't walk around with your Sovereign like that. You paid the price for it.

Makes me more certain they should have designed the Sovereigns like Master of Magics and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magics Wizards.

really? a level 10 sov in legendary plate shouldn't be able to take on a band of spiders on his own?

I think its very good to have spells that can be countered with other spells if spell Y is not overpowered without spell X. Both spells should be options, but not required to win the game.

Oh, can a Sovereign really reach such a high level? I think too many stat points could be the problem why the scaling does not work very good.

I disagree that this is bad. This came up alot in MOO2 where you had multiple 'tech up or die' situations, depending on what your enemies were sending against. It was like a real arms race. Stalemates are ok  and possibly quite dramatic in some situations. Two master wizards in single combat reminds me of a Yoda vs. the Emperor kinda thing. I think its ok.

Its clear from recent observations that direct damage spells are still problematic. Versatile counter-spells could help alot I think. I'm thinking that if DD spells take a full round to cast, and defensive spells are instant cast but last two rounds, you can break most stalemates, but I don't think you want to break all of them.

True but if not for tangle web I could have take them all in about three rounds with hardly a scratch.

Hell, could have taken all of them in 1 round with Infernal... and without a scratch. things like this make me now make sure I always have 'parties' of two units minimum. At least by the time I hit mid-game

But overall, by and by... 99% of monster encounters are a cinch if you do tactical battle
