@Frogboy - Treaties are broken

I'm pretty sure you're already aware (if not, check my link in your saved games thread), but research/trade treaties are broken.

Case in point:
I'm the #1 empire and have completely dominated the Resolyn down to literally 2 level 1 cities, both completely within my influence. A research treaty is +9 Tech Research per turn for me and +0 for them. It should clearly be the reverse. Trade Treaty<->Gold Production? Same thing.

Hi Gaeb22, any chance you can post your saved game? I'll check it out in the debugger.

If I remember correctly trade and tech treaties give a % bonus.  I remember it being 10%

Hey, Frogboy -- it's in the "Post your savegame" thread as stated =)

First, you are the one in power.  Second, you are paying for the treaty, probably.  So why should it be "clearly" the reverse?  Look at it this way: you are bearing down upon them and sucking them dry of whatever "hidden" knowledge they might have.

Not sure what you mean by "CLEARLY". The way I have understood treaties is that they grant a greater benefit to the more powerful faction. It's one of the best reasons to keep small factions around.

Oh - I totally had the opposite interpretation; that the lesser civilization would gain much more (relatively) from the relationship. I mean, if I do a tech treaty with some impovershed nation, they're going to learn things just when I try to explain the concepts I want them to help me with .... similarly if I trade with a very poor nation, they get a pretty big benefit just from my nation's presence.

While we're on the topic:

A) Can non-aggression treaties be set to a certain amount of time and that factor into the formula - I'd pay extra for a 20 turn nonaggression treaty so I could run in, get the quest item, and run out.

B) I was thinking about this in the car today - debt and lending. Would be neat if Capitar coudl lend me 500Gildar and I pay them back at a rate of 5.5 G / 100 turns (550G payback) ... and that lessens their desire to go to war with me because I owe them money.

As far as the "clearly" part, it seemed clear to me that if the nation I was dominating in that game had 2 level 1 cities and 0 research buildings, the fact that I was getting +9 research per turn from them was completely ludicrous - first off, I was getting 9 more research than their entire civilization produced, and second, I was getting about 1 point of research for every 2 of their citizens. How does that work, just intuitively - how can I possible learn that much from a completely subjugated, impovershed nation?

Similarly I think their net income was -0.2 Gildar (I kept trading them merchants in an effort to see what they'd do with the money, so I don't know what the savegame is at) and I was getting like 14 G/turn from our 'treaty' ... totally ludicrous =)

Also - not sure how familiar you are with Space Empires IV -- Subjugation treaties would be neat as well...

End of Gaeb22's quote

Agreed, well stated

Also, in my current game, I have researched all the diplomacy techs, I have a non agr, and many kids/grand kids with a particular SOV, but the treaty option remains blacked out - so i cannot propose an alliance.

YES!  Please add this!  I don't mind ending a game because of an 'alliance treaty', in fact I prefer it because it saves time moping up leftover cities and AI's who don't stand a chance of winning.  But I'd also like some acknowledgement of my domination of power in the game.  When you go for an alliance treaty now, your score gets cut in half and a text which says essentially "the other factions grudgingly agree to settle for peace."  It works, but lacks flavor.
