Feature Request

City Razing

Hi,

First up, please do not take this post as a critisim of the game. It's not. I love Elemental, and I'm happy that I've persisted with it. This post is just one of my frustrations with the game in it's current state.  I'm more then willing to admit that I may be missing something here, or not building, reasearching something. So if there is any advice on game play that could help resolve this issue I'd be more then happy to hear it.

The issue is the game's economy.  I'm having problems managing the resources needed to run my Empire whilst at the same time, keeping my cities defended from attack. I've been finding Elemental to be a tad frustrating with the way it manages it's economy.  First off, it's unclear where the money is going and how to increase the amount of money coming in.  So balancing expenses for me has been hit and miss.

I don't know if this feature already exists or not, if it does then please explain to me how to do it.  The feature I'm after is city razing.  Lately I've found that if I capture an AI's city my economy goes down the drain.  It's made even worse by the need to keep troops in the cities in order to prevent wondering mobs from destroying them.  Add in the necessary troop requirement to be able to beat back the AI and the whole thing is an excercise in frustration.  The ability to completely raze an AI's city rather then capture it, would be nice.  The ability to balance my econ with my armies would even nicer, but hey I can't have every thing :).

Thanks for reading through my rambling post.

Capture the city. Then target it and press X.

Technically, there is a technology needed to do this, but it is currently bugged so that you can use the hotkey x to raze any selected city. Once you research the tech, you will see a raze city option on the city's display along with rename, improve, and train.

Generally speaking, establishing a solid economy involves researching adventuring tech (which tech you need depends on which side you are playing) to spawn gold mines BEFORE you start expanding. This in turn, makes your capital the perfect Gildar factory, as it will end up with a lot of gold mines (3, or more if you get a lucky start). Then level it up with gildar bonus and build all the bonus buildings and you're good to go. This should give you a solid source of income. I've had games where my capital generates over 100 Gildar per turn by itself.

End of Kalin_02's quote
I find researching adventure before you have expanded your borders can be a bit risky due to all the monster spawns. but you are right about the gold spawning being awesome for an economy. Another good strategy is to rush to trading then set up a good caravan network to your food cities. This will allow you to make a bunch of merchants which can offset the lack of gold mines.

Thanks for the responses everyone .  I've tried the advice in this thread (teching up the resource techs) and the econ is coming a long nicely.  The more I play and learn about the inner workings of this game, the more fun it is :).
