I'll marry you...for 1400 Gildar

Anyone else feel like the marriage process is a bit...

Sovereign: My lady, would you accompany me in my adventures?

"Sure...that will be 1400 Gildar"

Sovereign: Right...here you go

(Many years pass between the two and their adventures)

Sovereign: I want you to be my queen...Will you marry me?

"Sure, you already paid 1400 Gildar I'll do anything you like"

But before she accepts your offer she says,

"No, my lord. My King. The Ruler of all lands known and unknown. Conquerer of beasts, man, and monster. Builder of worlds. And Master of Magic. You do not have enough reputation for me to consider marrying you."

I just wish they'd add a "start game already married" option so i don't have to spend years I should be building up my kingdom scouring the wastes for a wife! Maybe at least let me propose on the spot so i don't have to immediately after paying her for her "services"! I feel like a dirty old man! :p

so true, but you can just smite her on the spot :) it's brutal but word spreads fast ingame that you are a cold blooded monster. <--Best prestige I've gotten in a single game.

I think this could be solved if every kingdom/empire could start with a custom sidekick (Custom Janusk)/+custom spouse. That way I wont have to worry about the stats of my future spouse or if I can ever find one. Last game I got married at turn...700 or something cause it was a total sausagefest

Eh, considering half the fun is finding someone genetically compatible... (As in, will cause the strongest offspring), no, I don't think you should start with a spouse. :D

Doesn't the AI already cheat by starting with a spouse?

Well, what they get in starting married and getting children early is more than made up for by the fact that you can start killing their children before their eyes.

So now that we have a game that is rich in features and options, people actually want to start reducing them? Bah.

I've had games where it took me 300-400 turns to get married too, it's a pain in the ass. Especially because of Novaburst's comment below.

Just so you guys know I'm trying to implement an "Engaged" trait into the Sovereign creation; also trying to make a companion start with you. However, it's proving much more difficult then expected. I believe I'm going to have to make it either an item that spawns them or a "quest" to seek them. I haven't found the code to spawn a champion character as of yet. I can spawn a unit... but not a marry-able one or one who acts as a hero.

Yes, all the AI characters start off married and usually having children by turn 15-30. A little unfair, IMO.

I agree, it should be optional which is why a trait is perfect for it's implementation.

Who, of everyone on this board, is actually reducing features? lol.

I would love to know how the stats of your children is actually calculated, seeing how I ended up with 3 children below ten strength when both parents had strength above 40.

Also how the ages are calculated is kinda silly... Me and my wife (aka: fist bitch i saw) were 26yo

and our daughter 20!

Sure as the sovereign i am well known for my sexual prowess at the age of 6.

But i think you need to be at least 10 to give birth...

The devs had said that children age faster than their parents, otherwise it would be WAY too long to get them into the game.

Happens in real life. How do you think old/ulgy men get young good looking women? It is not because they are funny.

I want a death spell that lets me sacrifice my children for magical power. Or carry them around like mana potions, pop the top off an drink the unicorn blood.

Besides, you all pay for your wives, a lot more than these kings ever will. It's just in installments.

Thats kinda stupid.

Easily tweaked: Channelers live longer then "normal people". SO you will get a 120 Sov and a 100 year old child... 50 yo grandchild... 20yo "grandmaster" child.

Anyway with current game length i never see any grandchildren...

Just make a female sovereign and marry Janusk (yeah I know: EEWK!, but... it's for the people and the land my dear sovereign), he usually has high int, which is basically all that matters to me.

does the empire get janusk btw?

Only played once with the kingdome and was all bugy all game...

Yes, it's true. But would they allow Sovereign to die without a game over and children to take over, they wouldn't have to resort to such tricks.

I very like the spirit of the thread ;-)

- Killing the one you love because she hates you => bad reputation : Awesome idea.

- Sacrificing your children for magic Power !

I remember how in Total War I always made sure to send flawed descendants in first line of battle to be sure that a more apt child would success me.

Egalitarian only makes sense if girls are not allowed to success you (More a kingdow thing I think). Could be a major difference between Empire and kingdom.

And for the parents 40 strength => child below 10. I think it's quite normal as there is also experience levels. You would have a lot of inflation in the power of your lineage.

I think male sovereigns should start with a female equivalent to janusk, with low prestige so that you can marry her on the spot

Btw in my game, when janusk got killed, it's my wife that gives me the advices, way better !
