Are the color graphics SUPPOSED to be this sloppy?

http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss293/Sylenall/

This is from a fresh install, no mods are on.  I figured it may be intentional, then I saw the paint blotch covering up half the Kodiaks main cannon... :S   Also can anyone tell me if TEC fighter/bombers are supposed to have any color markings?  Mine are just a pure metal color.

The TEC Kodiak is the only ship I have noticed having this problem...

Check the last picture for the paint on the cannon opening, it may be a bit difficult to see as the surrounding space is dark.

Ok, first of all the graphics without mod graphics upgrade is...how should I say this....however, you can do alot without it, turn up all of your effects on buildings, planets, ship to highest and turn on your Anti-Alaise to 4x or find out what is the best your computer could put together and work around it

I have mine for exampl:

highest on planet, all highest on ships and all highest on buildings

Go to your video, go to anti-alaisng, and switch it to 4x

Graphics for ships and buildings were set to high.  Like I said, the Kodiak is the only ship that displays this sloppy asymetrical pattern.

Can anyone show me how a proper one should look like?

You'd turn the best graphics card in production into a puddle if the game had graphics comparable to a hot first person shooter.  It's got way too many units to be bleeding edge.

My point doesnt seem to be coming across properly :\

I'm not complaining about the quality of the GRAPHICS, I'm wondering about the COLOR SCHEME.  Now, if this is normal, and appears the same way for your Kodiaks, please say so, because I'm trying to ascertin if this is an annomaly or not.

EVERY other TEC ship has a normal color scheme of symetrical color markings(save fighters/bombers) so when I see that only the Kodiak is differnt then of course it causes some concern.

Cant see photo. Check link then will try to help.

Though there are other graphical anomalies in this game as well. It happens.

Looks normal to me.

Did you try the external link at the top of the page?  Anyway ifyou cant access the album here is one of the profile shot's I took http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss293/Sylenall/?action=view&current=ScreenShot_8.jpg

The red clearly looks washed out, uneven and if you enlarge it you can see faint red lines all about the front of the ship.

well i can tell you i dont have any problems like that... i use blue as my colour scheme, so its possible there is a tiny bug in the red colour scheme application subroutines (i always wanted to use that word)

i can see, on the top of the top cannon, there are small lines, like the paint dripped, and on the rear side (the side you can see) there is a large blot that looks a little weird.

as someone said, if cant be totally sharp, just too much going on, but i do see where you are coming from

on the other hand.... while you are fighting, does the colour scheme really matter all that much?

Whatever the cause of this problem, It obviously involves the team color mesh.  I know it started around the time version 1.1 was released, when I was testing Annatar's adaptation of Bail's mod.  Since then, I have removed all my mods uninstalled the game, re-installed it and still it persists...

It's too bad since I mostly just skirmish against AI and TEC is my favourite faction  :(

Pretty sure the color I pick doesnt effect it, since the Rebel Kodiaks I meet all have the same crappy paint-job.

just played a game, had a look at my kodiaks, but also at all my ships... no weird colour blotches... i mean, there are some artistic bits where the paint has faded or scratched off, but nothing like what was in that picture...

really have no idea whats wrong... is it possible one of your mods altered a game file that you dont know about?

I actually think that's probably the case, but I have no idea how to check or fix such an issue.  Is there any way to do a "clean" un-install?  I'm thinking that Re-installing from the orginal game-disc might have more luck than doing it from Impulse.

Of course, I wont be able to get my hands on the disc for a week or so(until I get back from university), so any other solutions would be appreciated.

From wat I saw, there were no "random splotches". There was something in SS #8 (at the bottom left) that looked like it could be interpreted as random but I think it's just the way the team paint was applied for Kodiaks. I'm not saying you're crazy; I might not have seen it, but I looked at all the screens and I didn't see anything wrong...

Each ship probably has a bunch of texture maps on them which reduce the file size...instead of drawing each individual pipe and armor plate, they make a color swatch or something in photoshop (or equivalent) and smack that on there...saves memory and stuff....I despsie texture maps....they are impossible to do in Maya!!!

Maybe it is just paranoia, but between the fact that NONE of the other TEC ships look this way, mixed feedback here and the fact that I cannot find ONE good post-1.1 close-up shot of a Kodiak ANYWHERE on the web(and therfore nothing solid to compare it to) I just cant belive that this is how it's supposed to be.

Just went ingame real quick and took some screenshots of my own Kodiak colored yellow, and it looked just like yours, right down to the colored inside of the barrel.  Just for reference here, I'm running the game at max settings with 4x AA and 1680x1050.  I see what he's saying, and you'd have to be blind not to see it as well, because it looks like someone applied an overlay of paint and it landed in random spots all over.  I guess the Kodiak just has a really bad texture, though I wouldn't doubt that they'll fix this soon, seeing how they did the same for some of the other TEC ships.

Here are the screenshots:

From the looks of it, and the fact it bleeds your empire color, I'd say poorly done alpha channel.

Yup, that's exactly whay I'm getting.  You didnt have any mods on when you took these did you?  One more thing, can you tell me if your fighters/ bombers display any team color besides exhaust trails?  Thanks.

I have no idea what that means  >_> , but should I assume that you are NOT having this problem?  All I'm really trying to find out is if this is an isolated problem for afew people like me Ssolrac, or a commonly overlooked bad texturing job by Ironclad.

No, that means it is a texturing problem.  They put a transparent stripe (Alpha Channel) on their texture, to allow for empire color to show through.  It's meant to be there, but it does look like it was a haphazard rushed job rather than the normal neat tidy job done on most of the other models.

Nope, no mods running at all.  Just checked the fighters and bombers now.  I found that there seemed to be nothing to see on the bombers, but the fighters had quite a noticable team color design, though you had to be looking at them sort of close to make it out well enough.

I would be pretty sure that everyone has the messed up texture, because this would seem like a problem that would break multiplayer if it was only an isolated problem.  The question is, do they know about this, and if not, how do we let them know?  One would think that this is a problem that would be easy enough for them to fix, as long as they know about it.

Well small update here:

I re-installed from the game disc to version 1.00 and after that Kodiaks did indeed look normal again, after getting the update from impulse to bring my version baaack up to 1.16 however The Kodiak's paint-job  again deteriorated into the sloppy mess you see in the pictures.  Fairly obvious now that whatever caused this is included in the recent updates.

Dont know how they look in Entrenchment, I dont have it.
