Mass Scuttle ability

For the next patch

May we please have the ability to scuttle multiple numbers of ships rather than the current and tedious method of one at a time? This would also help when reconfiguring planet specialities (i.e. Siddenly, your trade world that has 8 trade posts needs to become the frigate factory hub...select all the trade hub and mass-scuttle with one click!). Other uses would be to scuttle your masses of LRMs when the enemy sudden counters with an appropriate fleet of his own. Save time and money!

I also want to be able to bombard my own planets and shoot homeless people on my planets at the nearest star.

I think his request is pretty reasonable. It seems logical that if you select a whole fleet of ships, you could scuttle them all by using scuttle. At the very least, it could be made an alternate hotkey.

I can't think of any way this would disrupt any other commands.

Hmm, in terms of strategy yeah it's very valid. However those little guys are all gonna die. I think sometimes instead of scuttling, they should turn into pirates, with a taste for their former empire...Who want's to die? You still get the ability to get more ships wherever you need to build them, but you'd miss on the refund, and you'd build a little enemy. (Perhaps the value you'd normally get back would be added to the price on your head?)

This could be based on loyalty plus some randomeness. Far out on the fringe, ships crews might be less likely to sell their souls for their bloodthirsty emperor (I NEVER scuttle ships because I believe every man has a right to die fighting.)

I seriously doubt anyone would just stand inside a ship that's being hollowed out and rigged with demolition charges.
And this could all be avoided by manually clicking the scuttle button for each ship. Kind of pointless to implement such an easily-dodged threat.

hmm seems my post didn't post...odd. anyway I think its just an oversight that multi scuttle isn't in the game. star trek armada had this where the whole fleet would line up to be deconstructed in the ship yard. as far as killing your own people, common use your head, when we implode buildings in the real world we always empty them first. just pretend the countdown is for giving time for the place to be condemned, you will feel better :)

You lose such a LARGE portion of your investment when you scuttle, I don't see how doing it en masse would be a good idea. Even if you have a bad fleet, isn't it better than no fleet at all?

I also see no problem with mass scuttling. The button is so small and the countdown so long, so there is no real chance of accidentally scuttling your main fleet.

Scuttle also works with building, eg. defense that you want to remove to build a cannon. Furthermore a big, but weak fleet can be bad. Eg. if you reached the fleet cap by building heavy cruisers and still have some light frigates.

Now, of course you could research a higher fleet cap, but then you have to spend money for that and pay more taxes. If you scuttle the light frigates instead, you can keep building some more heavy cruisers.

This is something I'd like to see, too. We're not just talking about the difference between scuttling one ship and a huge fleet. Even if there are only, say, 5 targets, it'd be nice if you could simply click once rather than having to cycle through the whole lot.

This is one of those options that I can't think of one compelling reason 'not' to have (unless it's much harder to include code-wise than it looks, I suppose).

I'd like to see a mass scuttle command. As it stands now I use ships that have lost their usefulness as cannon fodder, and use those fleet points to build more appropriate ships as they come. Not as big of an issue with things like trade posts that you want to change to frigate factories though, there just aren't as many of them.

I just want mass scuttle to see massive explosions.

:P

Haha, just kidding, but it is enjoying to watch. But yeah, mass scuttle seems like a necessary feature, although I haven't needed it yet (but I haven't played enough, and I'm sure I'll need it soon).

Someone should scuttle 16 capital ships as a Novalith hits a planet. That'd look awesome.
