a message to all who havent subscribed...

from someone who finally did

i may not have been here that long in a subscriber sense, but i've been downloading skins for a while before i subscribed. i've kept tabs on the WC charity drive, and i think that while we are helping, more work needs to be done. quire frankly, i'll bet there are a lot of people who have the free little registered accounts, chat around in the forums, and take that download limit to that last 40KB. i know because i did. i was out of downloads, and quire frankly, i was tired of skins. i believe this was around the time that vStyler released his Stargate SG-1 skin that was amazing, by the way, and still is.... i eventually came back, and realized that i didnt like WC because of skins, i liked the people, the skinners who would treat you with the kindness and respect that all of humanity should. i genuinely missed just hanging around, chatting in the forums, and just being there. so i came back, and started up again. i talked to my fiance about how much i enjoyed just spending some time browsing the forums, and occasionally showing up in IRC, and just having intelligent conversations with very intelligent and talented people.

i was looking for an excuse to just subscribe. i dont know what my actual reason for not subscribing was, but i held out for some reason. it could have something to do with some "tight" financial situations, or the lack of time to spend here, but with my job picking up, and with things starting to get more hectic, i for some reason feel that i have the time. on top of that, i've had so many fun times here, that i couldnt imagine not being around. and what better time to subscribe when a portion goes to a great charity, and quite frankly, for those of you who think that WC is working out great for you as is, you have not even seen the tip of the iceberg.

lets put it this way...
for chatters, the WC browser is awesome
for skin downloaders, the WC browser is heaven
for people that browse the forums, the WC browser is faster, easier, and more efficient.
WC.com is great, but to really appreciate the community, you've got to try out this browser. it alone is worth the 20 bucks to subscribe.

also for those who whine about deserving masters charging for a Master skin...20 percent off all master skins. i bought the Texas hold em skin i've had my eye on for quite a while, and it wasnt even full price. although it's easily worth two or three times that price.

for skin downloaders... guess what? unlimited downloads. yes, thats right. unlimited. if you've got the time, you can download every single skin on this website.some people will think you have too much time on your hands, but hey what do they know?you can even download them all twice if you really want to, but im not sure i'd reccommend that. what's that? only 12 skins per page? well, ya know, if you subscribe, you can crank that all the way to 100 skins per page in all libraries. trust me, saves a LOT of time.

if you're like me, and this is no knock on WC, but i did not like the right bar at all. well since i subscribed, i moved it to the left... much easier...

for you firefox users, who thought that the little adblock extension would save you from WC ads, think again. they're still there, because the mods and admins know their stuff. but as a subscriber, those are all gone, gone, gone...

i didnt even know that id have access to these, and maybe a mod can tell you how long they'll be available, but there are some amazing suites included that you can download for free! WC select is a great great skin that i'm currently using, but guess what? gotta be a subscriber to download it. also, im guessing that there might be some more goodies coming along for subscribers such as specialty skins, and other little nuggets of goodness.

also, you will receive a site within WC, where you can upload photos, and share more about yourself.

for 20 bucks, your getting an amazing deal. nuff said

if you dont agree with any of my other reasons, then try this one.

Buy a subscription, or a master skin, because some of that money goes to kids for Christmas. these kids deserve all the help we can give, and for some of you, 20 bucks is basically 4 cups of coffee. so come on, help these kids, and help a great site that allows people do what they love, and get appreciation from fans all over the world for their hard work.

that's my little nugget of wisdom. hope it sways a few of you to join...

for those of you unable to subscribe, please dont think im trying to talk down to you, becuase i've been there, too.

This brings up a question I have - do the people that work so hard at making all this good stuff have a way of getting any compensation for their time?

The skinners.

the skinners are rewarded by having their artwork featured on a worldwide stage. they earn ranks, and eventually, after giving to the community, participation in the forums in many cases, and other involvement in the site, they earn a rank of Master. they are then allowed to sell their skins if they choose. many masters still offer skins for free, and sell others. it's a good system, and it allows people the chance to really step up and show some amazing talent

Got it - sounds like a good arrangement. I was hoping there was some sort of reward system and recognition for the hard work. I also wanted to know where my money is going when I buy a premium item.

Thank you for your original post here - very well thought out and presented.

For me - I guess it took me a few weeks to join while I determined what I was buying into.

I think it is well worth the cost but really it is more about supporting a good thing rather than what I get from it. I think it is certainly a venture worth helping to grow.

20 bucks well spent for a subscription is worth it.

Great post and it needs to move up so people will see and read it.

I'm out to 2010 right now, but then some of you have subscriptions that go far beyond that.

The question still remains, how do we get more new subscribers? Do we let them know about our Wednesday High Tea and Finger Sandwiches?

Nice Summary....

But I do have to say.... What adds? There's adds here? LOL

No really! All I use is adblock nightly 43 and actually have never even blocked a add here by having to pick and block it. Already all gone from just using wildcards n such in blocking adds on other sites.

But yeah, I do wish/plan to subscribe myself when I get the extra cash.

Just had to add the add part in cause that just made me laugh at how you worded that.

Blocking ads removes revenue.  Stardock gets paid by ads presented and ads clicked.
I'm the hard-line, jerk moderator (opposed to the good-looking, spelling-God moderator) but I call that stealing.

The right thing to do is to show the ads, subscribe to the site, or not go to it.  C'mon . . do the right thing, it's fun.  All the cool kids are doing it!
