cost of bonusses from planets/starbases

Hiya,

I'd guess it's written somewhere in teh forum already, but if so, I probably didn't use the right search-strings.

So, please excuse if the question was asked before

I got a question about the effect of bonusses on your economy.

So if you produce/research something it costs you money.
If you have a bonus-planet-tile that increases your output you probably have to pay fully for that.

so far so good.

But what do more general bonusses do? Like:
- If a planet has +50% Production/Research bonus, do you have to pay fully for the extra production that generates?
- If you build a starbase near a planet that increases its production and reserach by 19% - do you have to pay for that ?
- if you harvest a research ressource that increases your reserach empire wide by x%, do you have to pay for that?

And a last question, something slightly different:
In my current "tough" game my main opponent are a quite strong altarian resistance. While I'm befriended with them and trying to get an alliance I try to ..well.. sabotage them slightly. On one of their planets thy got 700% production tile + it's the manufacturing capital. currently they got a Manufacturing centre built there (not sure if the name is right, the one that pumps out a max of 10 production)
When I place a spy there, the planet production is lowered by almost 200 points (190 something). And I simply cannot image how that's possible:

+700% mean 80 base production
They could have a starbase there that adds 24%
The planet may have a moon (I dont really remember atm, so I just assume it): +10%
They have probably +20% production from the modifier the techs give
The Manufacturing Capitol is built there.

All that adds up to +104%, so about 100% bonus
Which would get the production to 160 MAX.
But they got a much smaller empire than me and keep up with research quite well. So they should have at least 40% of money going into research, which would make +100 effective production from this one tile. So how does it drop the planets procution by about 200 points. I'm at a loss here...
(They got another +300% tile on the same planet which drops the planets production by 100 points when I spy there...so this is in line with the above from the +700% tile)

Hi!
And I simply cannot image how that's possible:

Check their abilities / statistics: the soc/mil production is usually quite high - 30% at least just from all researched tech. If they're industrialist, or 've "picked" additional 10-20%%, they're quite there.

Besides, the number you're seeing with your spy is MAXIMUM POSSIBLE production, not the output from the planet. To see the real output, you need advanced spying on them.

ah I see. I missed the little word "max" in the spy-window.
When really going onto the planet it goes from 40/30-> 4/2, which isn't an as big loss, but more "realistic"

Anyway..if I had known they have such a great planet, I certainly wouldn't have picked them as my "strategic partner" Bastards don't sem to be willing to ally me anyway.

So that "mystery" is solved, anyone can answer my questions about the "bonus productions" ?

If a planet has +50% Production/Research bonus, do you have to pay fully for the extra production that generates?

Yes, you pay the full cost of the total production/research including on-planet bonuses.

If you build a starbase near a planet that increases its production and reserach by 19% - do you have to pay for that?
If you harvest a research ressource that increases your reserach empire wide by x%, do you have to pay for that?

Yes, but you only pay 50% of the cost of both of these types of bonus production/research. Also note that these types of bonuses are also applied to on-planet bonuses.

For example, if you have a planet with 200 RP's of base research and a 150% on-planet bonus from your tech capital and omega research center, then the planet's production is 500 RP's which costs you 500 bc's and is listed in your planet's spending. If you also have a combination of starbase bonus, research resource mining, racial ability and tech bonuses of 500% then your actual total research from this planet is 2500 RP's and the total cost is 500 + 2000/2 = 1500 bc's. The additional 1000 bc's of cost is listed under bonus research/production in your domestic policy page.

Note that buildings that give a global research bonus like Hyper Computers and Nano Recorders are included along with starbase bonus and resource mining. Certainly it's good to have these but they would just "waste" a tile on a dedicated research planet.
