E-Mail: New DA serial number?

Here is the e-mail I got recently (Minus serial number).

Dear Dark Avatar Customer,

Thank you for your recent purchase of Galactiv Civilizations - Dark Avatar. In an effort to improve our serial number system we are updating our serial numbers that the game Dark Avatar uses. Because of this change we are assigning you a new serial number to use with your registration of Dark Avatar. Please update your registration with the new serial number below.

Dark Avatar Serial Number: #####-#####-#####-#####-#####-#####

To update your serial number, you can use the Dark Avatar launcher or Stardock Central (Tools / Register Products and select Dark Avatar from the dropdown under the Games section).

If you have any questions, please contact support@stardock.com.

Sincerely,

Stardock Entertainment

I've got two questions.
1. I preordered and have been playing Dark Avatar since beta. So why is the e-mail saying "Thank you for your recent purchase..."?
2. Is there really an effort to improve the serial number system of Dark Avatar? I would like to know if this e-mail is legit. I don't want to end up losing my game.

Sorry to bother you Kryo. The e-mail looks legit, but I'm looking for a second opinion.

I got that same email a while back. I think the "recent purchase" bit is just a byproduct of mass emailing. My main concern was whether Metaverse games that I had started with my original id would still post if my system had a different id when i finished the games. I emailed tech support and the guy said he wasn't sure, but he would finish any in-progress games before updating. Although, rereading that message, I'm not really sure he knew what I was talking about. I haven't made the change yet, either.

Hopefully someone who knows what's going on will spot this thread soon.

Yep.

If you don't have any problems with activation and such, I'd imagine you can probably just file that email away for later (you'll probably need to use the new one to activate in the future).
