Will we ever be able to warn / threaten the AIs?

Ever since the moo's, I've wanted to be able to warn, threaten, extort, etc the AI's like they do us.

You know, when the Dregin ask for their protection money...I want to be able to do that too.

Well you kinda can ask for money, just ask it in diplomacy screen and give nothing to the opposite party.

But I know what you mean, I too would love to tell AI all kinds of things. Most importantly "get your ships away from my zone of control"

You can do this with Tech, planets, Influence points, and ships as well. You just really do not get the satisfaction of the threatening dialog. Adding the dialog would be a nice touch.

Didn't Civilization III allow the player to choose the 'tone' of a diplomatic offer? You could choose to beg for something, demand it, or something in between. I don't know if it had any gameplay effect, though.

Nice. I conquered some planets but the surrounding area was littered with influence bases from another race. I would like to be able to have them remove the starbases.
I'm the most powerful faction at this stage so I probably could just declare war, destroy the bases and make peace again, but a more diplomatic option would be nice.

Nice Idea! More diplomatic options... (I really like the idea of telling the AI to move their ships out of your zone)

other like:

//A Federation? like surrendering, but with a kind better background: " Do you want to be a part of the great xxx Empire?" -> Ships, techs etc...of the race belong to you.
(races with same ethical alignment agrees to that.)

Kryo responds to this here:

Appearantly, there is a coding issue for the AI to determine whether or not the player is full of poop, and thus an opening for player abuse.

I didn't mean to imply that there was an 'issue', just that it's not as simple as some may think (the case with many suggestions, as you can imagine).

Side question: does making a one-sided (and possibly threatening) request actually affect the other civ's relations with you? In other words, if I start demanding planets from a civ and they simply refuse, does the ai remember that I'm being a jerk?

The AI's relations with you get better when you give them things and, i think, when you make a successfull agreement. So I would imagine that repeated attempts at giving them a raw deal might make them abit irritated.

I know just enough about code work to respect Kryo's remark about things not always being as simple as we might think out in player-land. But I'd still really like to be able to have a "Get Away From Me" message option, at least.

Some form of "tone" layer is something I've long thought missing from GCII. Threatening or sucking up to different AIs should be more than a simple matter of what you offer vs. what they have. Drengin should expect aggressive posturing while Iconians should shun it.

I too would like to be able to send a more pointed message to the AI. And I would love to see them respond differently according to the tone I took with them. Long term AI memories as to how I communicated with them would also be fun.

i can see it now you walk in and sit down and in a peaceful and pleaseing voice you demand all of the ai's money, ships, or influence

and becouse you asked so nicely the ai doesn't hold it against you lol

It would also be nice to apply the influence #'s used to sway a planet to sway a ship in a failing military to join your fleet.

This notion seems almost worth a different thread. I don't usually think about my influence strength when I'm on the Foreign Policy page other than noting that strong influence is a minus with the AIs. But this seems like a very interesting idea for extending the DA functionality that keeps fleets "alive" after an empire fails.

Ok Kryo, how about an option to tell the AIs 'If you don't aid me in this war you're going to have to drop the alliance' like they always tell me.

Stupid $^%Q^!! Terrans are trading with everyone and their brothers while the entire rest of the galaxy declares war on me.
