MIssing systray icons

Every time i apply a theme using windowsblinds 5.1, i notice the system tray icons are missing even after rebooting my computer.

Ive tried using different themes even the default themes which are pre-installed with the software also i used the override settings..... "skin decide taskbar size"
and ive re-installed windowblinds but still no luck.

I only seem to have this problem when using windowblinds, could it be conflicting with other software installed on my computer?

System Information:

WindowBlinds 5.1 System Information Report:

do you have any other software that deals with taskbar/systray?

: I'm sorry for the delay. Could you take a screenshot of the issue you're encountering and link or embed that in a response?

I'm also interested to hear the response to Bichur's question. Or more generally, do you have anything else installed that changes the look of your interface?

Have you tried adjusting the width of the taskbar?

Thank you,

Hi all.....

Thanks for all the help.........

The only programs with change the interface of windows at the moment, are:

Windowblinds

Icon packer

Styler

could it be one of these then which are conflicting with windowblinds?

Mike i have tried adjusting the task bar, but still no luck

I did find something on the internet though which seems to have worked for me, but im not actually sure if its still safe to do this....

This is how i got the icons back on my system tray

Control panel, Administrative Tools, Services,SSDP Discovery Service (Click disable)

now all the icons are back and fully working again

but i think theres still a conflict somewhere with one of my programs right? or i wouldnt have to change this option to disable in services

Thanks maybe you could assist me more

SSDP Discovery Service (Click disable)

Whether or not the SSDP DIscovery Service is related to your problem it is fine, even recommended that the service be disabled along with "Universal Plug and Play Device Host", which has nothing to do with "Plug & Play" hardware devices, e.g., monitors, speakers, etc. Both are security risks and at least at this time, there is not much of anything out there which they relate to. A fully patched version of Win XP SP-2 should have those two services disabled by default.

Very interesting. What you're experiencing does appear (in some part) to be something Microsoft is acknowledging:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=841571

If you're able to run with that disabled, I'd recommend leaving it that way. Hapkido is correct that it's not very security-friendly. UPNP is not your friend.

I searched the SSDP Discovery Service last night and found some links/articles - one being the one posted in #10.

I was thinking...
If you're able to run with that disabled, .....

but that's as far as I got.

This:

UPNP is not your friend.

I understand

Thanks Mike.

Thanks Hapkido, I can now rest easier until I get home and checked them for sure.
