Bored of Galactic Civ II

I have played it for a while and well, theres a pattern to the game.

When you have a good start the game is over. For instance last game I have played was a Battle of the Gods on Challenging in a Gigantic Galaxy. The human player does not get any alignment bonus in this game because the game does not allow you to choose an alignment like it does the AI. Fair enough. But the AI does stupid build choices. It goes for short term bonus and for some reason builds tons of farms and Research centers. None of them not even the much vanted Yor had my industrial capacity. The AI plays stupid. The game has become boring and predicable.

The first thing I would do is fix the AI and start having a balanced build plan.

For Instance the Acrean empire. They started a war. I did not attack them till I had about 25 various transports from a Mosbey Radier (small hull 2 advanced troop pods) to a Planetary invasion platform (Cargo hull with 5 advanced troop pods). There fleets touched only one of my planets and did not take it over (thank you Invasion preventions building what ever there called). I shot down tons of Troop Transports the largest ship they had in the field was a frigate while my fleets were headed by a Battle ship. After they lost 10 planets did they start making Cruisers geez. They started the war doesnt the AI have any planning or intelligence to it. I went through them like Germany thorugh Poland. They sued for peace and I gave it. All they while holding off the Yor and there pitiful fleets (tiny and small fighters). Then attacked the Yor in force the Torians and The Mimbari wanna be's dog piled on. So I went a huge number of turns doing nothing but upgrading my starbases and such. I was plain boring, The AI rated me from 6th to 2nd in military the whole time. I never once lost an important battle. The AI comes at me the same old way every time.

The big mistake of the AI is that it thinks only in terms of planets not systems. Taking over a system will change an empires boundries. It sends from 1 to 3 transports to a systems and might... might take over 1 or 2 planets. I think in terms of systems its like playing a child.

I would love a tactical similator in this game then you could

1. take out more than one ship with a battle ship
2. if the tactical combat has arcs in it then take small ships and tactically pull the shorts over a large ships head and blow up by getting behind them. In that as IN REAL LIFE speed will equal life in fighters and small ships.
3. Boarding actions. It would be worth while to capture a starbase with some moduals attached than blowing it up.

Please fix the brain dead AI.

Duh

jesus dude, mebey you should crank up the dificulty a little, challenging isnt all that challenging, i beleive you are still getting assisted at the lev and tough is a level playing ground ... also turn on intencive ai somethingorata (line please)
are you even playing with 1.2 btw?

and i agree with you on your bording actions, it would be cool to be able to capture starbaces, but whatever

The AI is not working at full capacity at Challenging. Put the AI on tough so that it's a level playing field, then come complain about it.

At minimum play on tough before complaining, and I'd personally say play at suicidal before you complain the game is too easy.

Your only valid complaint is the AI should not build reseach buildings on battle of the Gods mode. (Maybe one or two civs like the iconians should still reaserch and go for a tech win.)

Also, don't play Battle of the Gods! There's no way you'll see balanced build orders with that kind of technology to start the game. Since 1.2, my games have been exciting and quite difficult -- I've lost 3 times and I love it. For me, v1.2 completely revitalized my interest in the game. I'm going to preorder Dark Avatar the moment I'm able!

Troll.

troll indeed. Get wise kid: increase the difficulty. and try something other that battle of the gods. The basic sandbox mode is still the most fun.

perhaps if you are like me who like to turtle in and build my forces before starting a war, try instead to start the game with EVERYBODY at war against you. No sweet timing dolly lollying around anymore, every turn after they got space weapons should be a harrowing one.

Amazes me that people want to throw the game out because is not too tough but they are playing at challenging and lower levels!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! CRANK THE GAME DIFFICULTY AND THEN POST YOUR RANT!!!!

The word here is challenging, up the level for a harder game. Sounds to me like u mastered challenging level a long time ago. For a extreme game try suicidal, 1.2, no tech trading, 1 good race vs all 3 evil races in a large galaxy, everything abundant with AI algorithems turned on! Now can u beat it?

eh, so intensive AI algorithms are actually functional already? i dont recall it being mentioned in 1.2 change log...

For a more reasonable challenge play 9 races, tough-painful, medium map, loose clusters and win 100% regardless of start using any standard race, I expect that is the minium competency level.

Most of us can also sometimes beat maschonistic (without reloading inital position) and the best of us can beat suicidial...

Thanks!

Just play as an evil race on Painful or higher and choose evil early on. Watch out though cause you are probably gonna die. Still, if you survive the early attacks by the 'good' races, the game quickly gets easy because the AI still isn't developing planets very well. I admit it is a LOT better than 1.1, but it is still pretty brain dead in this regard.

I may be new but this goes for most games, if it's too easy set it to the hardest level.

Hmmmm Ill Only comment on the first line of your long post.

**When you have a good start the game is over.**

And I bet you restart the Game until you get that good start. Try to actually play a Bad start and then come back to complain. Game is alot harder when You Don't get the PERFECT start, that i'm sure you look for before you even play.

Come on, Malkuth (good user name, by the way), no need for hostility. If the original poster is bored and doesn't want to play on a higher difficulty, that's his loss.

He did make one point I've come to agree with - the AI could use better building schemes. Even on Challenging/Tough, I've conquered worlds and seen some very questionable buildings. Why would they build their Economic Capital on a PQ 5 world? Why would they waste a +300% Research square with a non-lab building the planet didn't even need? I don't know, but I've seen these things.
