Not being a computer person, I'd have to guess that since a CD is nothing more than a media storage device and not a removeable harddrive the true answer will become self evident approximately 45 minutes after the realization that the D in CD does not stand for drive.

in SDC theres an archive option..... you can use it to store all the apps and skin folders to a CD.. them use them as backups also remember to save the SDC installer to the CD too as you will need it to restore the archives in case you ever loose them off your pc ..
CD= compact disk

i believe he want's to use the CD as an alternate drive. i'm guessing Bash wants to run the programs from the compact disk so as not to slow down his system.

Are you sure the slowness is caused by the skins? Many things can slow down your PC, such as spyware, virus scanner effects, SW conflicts, programs running in the background & other issues. Before doing anything drastic, be sure you identified the problem correctly

Bash, running the programs from a CD = no go.

Running from the CD drive, even if possible............... wouldn't that be slower?

yeah it would be much much slower... not sure why anybody in their right mind would want to put themselves through that? it hurts my head imagining loading things from a CD drive!

Bash2cool, have you scanned the computer for spyware? Why do you say that the computer runs slow because you have loaded so many skins? That in itself should not be a problem unless you have run out of space for them on your hard drive or that the programs have gotten corrupted. Have you cleaned out the cache for the Stardock programs? How many skins have you loaded? Are you out of control? You have got to make sure that the computer is free of spyware and there are no viruses on it. Does the computer boot up OK? Does the computer show any error messages? There could be all sorts of things going on that would mess up the computer other than too many skins.

Bash, it's unlikely that the skins are the cause of your slow-down......unless you've filled the HD to maximum, perhaps. There are many reasons which can cause it, as aimzzz has already stated. The first thing would be to run Spybot and/or Adaware to eliminate any nasties you might have acquired. You could also try cleaning up the drive with ccleaner, which removes junk files and cleans your registry of invalid entries. Also, try uninstalling any unnecessary programs you might have.

Hope this is useful

ok here it goes.....

my computer runs a spyware check everyday at 3:00 AM and checks for viruses every friday at 2:00 AM

so i know that that's not the problem

i have loaded lots of skins and i had to reinstall my computer five times.....seriously

but i don't think its the skins either....i said that the softwares i downloaded caused that problem

by the way my computer has 80GB and a 1.6GHz processor so/////what do yea think

I don't think your problem is with too many skins.

Bash, if that's the MS Anti spyware proggie, it can and does miss things, so try running Spybot and Adaware as well, just for a little more peace of mind.

Cleaning the drive of unnecessary junk wouldn't hurt, either, but there are so many possibilities for the slowdown, you might be better off getting someone with a bit of tech knowledge to do a clean install and program reload for you....in the end it might be the quickest and easiest way to freshen/speed it up.

Possibly yes, but it would be much worse than you have now.

Wow. I am not so sure about this Bash person. But,Chasbo had me lmao reading his post. Are you out of control really hit the spot. Bash, the skins aren't the problem. Keep your running processes to a minimum, only run what you need. Run spyware checks with at least two different programs, AdAware is my personal favorite as SpyBot S&D has somewhat large footprint if you run the Tea Timer. And Bash, you seem a little impatient. Try a calmer approach.

what if i used a removeable disk.....like a flash drive?

It's not the amount of skins that slows one's system down. Read this twice.

Go to Start, Run, then type msconfig.

Go to the startup tab and tell me how many things are listed there.
