picky about sticky: thats me.

can some of the stickies at the top become unstuck. I think that 10 of them is a bit much. Maybe its just me.

I second that notion. Can we have a third?
Reply #2 Top
No. I'll give a fourth and if prodded a fifth. Maybe a quart. Don't know. However, where will the stickies go? Sticky hell or sticky heaven? A new Discussion group...say a Sticky Discussion Group? HMmmmmmmmmm. Jafo could take this one. He ain't doing anything. He lost his dictionary. Or so the tale goes. Not my tail of course...his... mine. I am confused. >

Yeah 10 is too much. Good Post Travis, this should be a sticky

Personally I'd dink them all except the screenshots....and if the others need to be saved, then they should be in either the Help or Skinning Discussion.

Use the latest SDC beta to browse the Discussion groups, and you can hide them.....

I agree that 10 is excessive. Of the sticky ones at the moment:

March Desktops => float...if it's popular, it'll stay near the top

MSStyles => help board

Bootskin => help board

Affiliates => Unstick and sink? 27 days un added to after all

Blogging => unstick and sink 38 days un added to

Add back the ones that would really help people who can't even find the help board such as "Waaaaah, my wallpaper is better than everything else on this site and you don't love me no more"

So ends the votes from Devon...

A sticky doesnt have to be continually added to to merit it's stickiness. Sometimes they are like notices that should be required reading for new users. Personally I don't care if there 5 or 10 or 15 stickies, I don't find it that difficult to navigate to the normal threads

i personally think the help stickys should stay .. its easyer to have 1 thread than 100 all over ..

Tiggz - would the 2 which haven't been touched for ages be considered required reading for new users? IMO not, though from the authors and the subject matter I suspect they'd stay.

HG_Eliminator - I agree...but if some people do wish to trim the fat, then maybe the more advanced ones could be rolled up into a single FAQ thread with links to the details in other threads?

In fact, why not have an FAQ thread made sticky? Get a good list of items together through discussion, get the wording just right (Like the wallpaper one greyhaze took the effort to create) and post it, sticky it, and lock it...most people are familiar with the concept of an FAQ and some may even click on it before posing a first question...?

Or they could just read the FAQ at the top of the board. Take it you didn't see that...

er....D'oh!

Don't get your coat too soon, Sput... The FAQ's haven't been updated in quite a while, either. And a significant amount of the info is incorrect and out of date. I'm sure it's well down on the list of priorities though, and I know from experience that it can be a pain. Maybe when the new WC is launched this summer things will be brought up to date.

#18 - true. After being pointed in their direction to check them out, they are a little ropey in places. They do cover the "sniff, why are you dissin' my rad wallpaper by not accepting it?", but it could be better in general.

Then again, I have to write and maintain FAQs for work, and I know how difficult it can be to keep them current...maybe if it was done the way I suggested and the community could respond in a more dynamic way to keep the info current it might help - but the stickies do tend to fill up with useless extra detritus so probably not...ah well.
