Problem with *Discussion* in Stardock Central

I have been using Stardock Central for about a week now and have been experiencing few problems. I have notice though in the last 2 days that when I'm in *Discussion* the threads are not being kept up to date. All week everything was fine.Right now it is off by about 3 threads.
Also, is it necessary that SDC update every time you login. What is it updating? If I un-check *application updates on startup* will that cause any problems.
I just wanted to know if anyone is also having the same problems.

Gadget Girl - Also, is it necessary that SDC update every time you login. What is it updating?

not sure about the discussion problem.

as for updating, what do you mean? if you mean that you get the clock animation, this is SC checking for available updates that you can download.

if however you mean SC auto-updating its self to a new version (you get the stardock central must be re-started message box) then it is updating to a new version

the SC version updates are because it is still being actively developed, and having bugs fixed.

The funniest thing is that I posted my thread through *discussion* in Stardock Central, submitted it but could not even see it posted. At first I thought it didn't go through but checked it by closing SDC and logging onto Wincustomize.

but problem could be Stardock released Galv.yesterday, so it could just be a sever overload.

Yes feline, I am sorry if I did not elaborate more on that.
When I log in, there are a lot of files that are transferred(sometimes more than 13 at one time)
I just find it a lot of updating.

yrag,I guess that must be the problem.
/me loves SDC *discussion* but will not use it till the problem is fixed.
Just can't keep up on most current threads(sometimes 5 or 6 behind) !!!!

i think that is when SC updates its self. the last file in the set (at least when this happens to me) is the new sdcentral.exe

as for a lot of updates, i know what you mean

Just to redefine my 1st problem-The existing threads are being updated in *discussion*through SD Central.
New threads in the last 2 maybe 3 days don't even show up in *discussion*
Is anyone having this problem???

you are one up on me! on my home machine there are no message boards listed in the discussion section of SC

i would email support@stardock.com with details of the problem if i were you.

the suggested solution for support for my "no boards" problem is to delete some registry keys, and do a clean install of SC from the upto date full installer.

i have added this to my "things to do" list

personally i normally use the message boards through IE, since for the way i post, i prefer it to the SC / WC Browser method.

Gadget Girl...check your settings and make the settings weren't changed during an update ( how many threads to show, how many days to show, etc)

I am glad to see that I am not the only one having these problems. The funniest thing is that threads up to a day and half ago are still updating!!This thread that I posted this morning is not on it. Go figure

Same on my system Gadget Girl. My system updates so fast that it is really not a problem for me but I could see that it would be anoying if I didn't have a fast connection. Also I tend to think that there is so much going on at the moment at Stardock that you really can't consider this the norm. Give it a few days to self correct.

/me is also cool today and not even related to Fuzzy Logic

Hehehe, mine is working now. Did a clean install yesterday (not for that reason) and now SDC is fully functional. Looks like you need to clear out all your discussion files, cookies etc.

/me looks cool as well...

HuronJoe-The funny thing is that i have cable. The last threads are at least 2 to 3 days old.
Fuzzy- Please tell me exactly what you did to remedy the problem.Do you un-install it through add and remove?
I deleted all my cookies twice this week. I would appreciate any help!

GadgetGirl, when i "fixed" SC on my work machine, i uninstalled via add/remove, and then reinstalled from the latest full installer.

since i had originally installed an early version of SC, the latest full install defaulted to a different directory, which helped to give a nice clean install.

so, i would suggest uninstall via add/remove. if the SC directory still exists, rename (or delete), and then install.

hopefully that will fix it.

Errm, I tried to set up a dual boot and it messed up my pc so I did a clean install - not recommended! Just follow what feline sez. If it breaks you can blame him hehehe

Thanks for all your help everyone! I did a full reinstall last night and deleted all the TI files, cookies, old threads( thanks Fuzzy for that one) . I did reinstall in the same directory(didn't know about changing directories)and so far it seems to work but it takes forever for the newer threads to come in.I hope that this is normal Again, thanks for all your help.Keep your fingers cross

GadgetGirl, one interesting experiment would be to check how fast (or slow) you are downloading data.

are you using a 56k modem to connect to the net?

if so, and you are using either OB or DX, you can use the SDTaskManager plugin to monitor the bandwidth. that will tell you if it is slow because there is no spare bandwidth, or it is slow because it simply isnt downloading anything for ages.

as for blaming me, the normal policy is to give fuzzy logic 50 spanks for each mistake you think i have made

feline- I have a fast connection(cable), so I don't think that was the problem.
I have to say Hallelujah!! because everything is working perfectly and faaaast!!! Maybe it's a good thing (Martha Stewart's words to live by) to delete the old threads once a week.I'm not sure but it worked for me.
