What difficulty should I play?

I'm having some mixed experiences with 1.4

Before release, I had plenty of enemy fleets attacking on Normal or Gifted, I generally murdered them, with superior ship design and gaming the role system.

Now post release I'm playing on Gifted and races with 1000 points in power ratings have nothing but the occasional ship, constructors and starbases... I haven't seen a fleet bigger than 3? Not a single invasion attempt... I did start playing on immense instead of gigantic...

A little miffed, since I put 9 hours into that game only to realize that no one was bothering to build fleets.

Anyone else having that experience?

Played several on incredible (large & Large+1), ~50% the AI kicked my ass.  Did a few on gifted and and stomped the AI bad which is why i upped the diff level.

My concern is the fleet building more than competency of the AI, sorry for any confusion.

Prior, I was seeing fleets of ships up to about 8 units, on normal. I'm playing on gifted and can't mind a fleet of more than 3 units. I'm using FOW code to see the map and just flabbergasted.

ah,   Sadly i do not recall fleet size under godlike, but incredible, well they are incredible.  Have seen fleets of 12+ , mostly large with some med's.  Invasion fleet 8-10 large with 1-2 transports

It seems to be a BIG jump from godlike, to incredible but obviously there is the RNG god so mileage will vary

I play almost exclusively on Godlike where you can consider all of your problems solved... a little too well.

Of course even then, the average endgame logistics for most factions is somewhere between 50 to 55, up to 65 if they use the Organized+2 trait. I never carefully checked, but I am basing this off of logistic techs. As such, you really cannot expect a fleet of huge ships to have more than 6 ships in the stack when it comes to the AI.

Unless you cheat or mod, the most huge ships you can have in a fleet is around 15, but this requires you to build all of those ships with the Universal Displacement Field component and on a planet with Hyperion Logistics. I have NEVER seen the AI make use of either one of those techs, so it should come as no surprise if you do not see large stacks.
