Simultaneous Turns?

I just read in the recent interview with Brad, "It’s a turn-based game, but movement within a turn is real-time.".

When did this happen?  Is that only in multi-player?  Is this "real-time" aspect at least an option?

One of the things I like about turn-based games is that I am not pressured to make all my decisions quickly and be fast and efficient at making all my moves (and feeling obligated to memorize all the hotkeys and shortcuts to save every possible second) before some timer runs out.  I want to be able to stop and appreciate the cool graphics or thoughtfully survey the map and carefully consider my strategy or take a sip of coffee without being concerned that while I am doing these things, something else may be happening somewhere when I am not looking (like happens in a RTS).

I realise I am probably in the minority here, but I almost HATE playing RTS games.  LOL  I bought Elemental because it was supposed to be turn-based?  I don't want to get too bent out of shape over this until I know/understand more, so can we please have some clarification about the "real-time" aspects of this game?

Of course it is only in multiplayer. It's not "real" real-time, rather a time limit for every turn to get going. It is very reasonable, because not everyone in a mutiplayer match with, say, 15 other players is willing to wait for every single one of them to enjoy the view. In singleplayer you have all the time in the world, don't worry.

Didn't you guys get the memo? The 0-Day patch turns Elemental into a FPS-RPG-MMO with some TBS aspects thrown in for fun. :P

In all seriousness though, yes that's for the multiplayer. I'm hoping they give some kind of slider when setting up the game for how long the turns should be. 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes etc etc. I can imagine on huge epic maps the end game turns could take longer than 60 seconds.

hopefully it is something you Could turn off all together.  I know that in AOE 2 (an RTS which is different) you could always save a game after a few hours of play and then pick up the game where you left off how ever long later. Probably hard with a 15 person game but very usefull and nice to have with 4-6 players lanning who are more then willing to take their time

I have no doubt there will be an "Unlimited" setting.
