Hi guys, I have a couple of themes I've developed using SkinStudio. The issue now is distribution. Due to the uniqueness of some of them (especially the Xtreme Naija Suite), I'd wanted to distribute them using a custom theme manager like the AlienGUIS. I've been trying to contact Stardock since September 2009 without much success. They keep taking me round in circles. I was wondering if I could get any help from here. Thanks.

Are you wanting to charge money for them? If not, why not just upload them to this site and some of the others like DeviantArt? There are lots of unique skins here that don't need to be distributed by a theme manager or installer. B[]

End of quote

The skins look well made (judging from the tiny screeny) but in no way "groundbreaking" in design, IMO.

Me personally...I don't much care for skin installers...and I don't use theme manager or alienguis. Just upload them here! ;)

Considering how much work, devotion, and time it takes for someone to make Master and be able to sell their skins on this site, what you are asking for seems a bit much.

There is also the issue of passing along that kind of info to someone and worrying about them packaging any skin they want, theirs or someone elses for distribution, sale, or whatever.

Then there is the concerns of the originality of the skins. There have been issues over stolen work regarding just one aspect of a skin like the start button for example.

There is an 'Enterprise' option you may want to check out here LINK that would cost you, but may allow you the 'control' you want over your work. I am not sure it applies to your needs. SOmeone more knowledgable in the 'Enterprise Solution' may be able to tell you here.

I think your best bet is to package them as a Theme Manager suite. Then people who have Theme Mananger installed (and all of the necessary individual apps, like WindowBlinds, WMP, etc.) can apply your theme in one click. But also, like WebGizmos said above, a lot of people would prefer to download and apply theme parts separately, without a theme manager. To cater to them, you would need to upload the individual skins to their individual libraries here, or on DeviantArt, or some other site, including your own.

However, if you want to distribute Stardock's actual software, you would need to license it. I would bet that is going to cost you thousands of dollars. Bascially, you have to pay for every user who might download the software from you. That's like buying 5000 copies of WindowBlinds so you can give them away. Of course, licensing is done in bulk and you wouldn't literally be buying 5000 copies of WindowBlinds at $20 each, but you get the point. You would be paying everyone's way so that they don't have to buy the software from Stardock directly. Unless you have some brilliant revenue plan to cover the costs, then I think it's an unrealistic goal. If you were a huge company, like Alienware, then it would probably come out of your marketing budget, just like magazine and internet ads.

That's my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for your reply.

Firstly, my company operates in Africa, and our clients would want branded desktops to augment their current marketing strategy. The problem is that 99.9% of our target users do not run Stardock products. We looked at the problem, and decided to package it like the AlienGUIS (so that the user won't need to install Stardock products first before using the themes).

The clients are ready to pay (cos most of them are large corporations is Africa). But Contacting Stardock has become a big task.
