The alignement of the Korx

The inner Struggle

I finally got Gal2 EU and I could play my favourite race the Korx in TA.

I always liked those Dagobert Ducks of the Galaxy. There is just one little conflict I have with them. I prefer to build up an Tradeempire and war is bad for trade (if it is against you). Unfortunatly even if you build a fleet to scare some away one good aligned race will scream for your destruction and wants to purge you from the galaxy (especially the drath). So in the latest game I researched along the ethic-line and changed my alignement to neutral the effect was incredible, many relations that were cool or observent went to more neutral. And I could continue my happy Tradeempire and mine the riches of the galaxy. There is just one thing that always bothers me. Do I play them properly? Especially since the evil alignement gives me more money from other trade routes that pass through my territory and makes Starbases for more affordable. But wouldn´t a wise Korxleader see the benefits of behavior in order to not draw war ambitions of other races to his empire so that he can swim in credits like a seal?

The Korx personality may be Evil, though they really should be played as Neutral.  The extra trade routes are a boon and will more than earn you what you may have gotten as Evil, as are the improved relations.  Also the Korx, especially in TA, are a bit weak overall, and the boosts that you get from going Neutral (morale boost, greater soldiering ability vs non-neutral alignments, instant-terraform) make them a much more capable race.

I often set the Korx up as Neutral in the Edit Opponent screen as it really seems to make them more of a player in my games.

Agreed.

The Korx may be evil in a selfish, backstabbing kind of way, but they're more neutral in a don't choose sides and stay out of trouble way.  I started playing again in November, and I was surprised to remember that the Korx were evil.  I like the idea of playing them neutral - though I haven't played them - and I like the idea of setting them up as a neutral opponent.

I'm begining to explore the AI settings more now, like changing the Drengin and Korath to generic personalities.  I haven't tried it yet, but they're broken so it probably can't be worse.

I wish we had more ways to 'trade' with others, be it renting them a starship construction planet or going halves on the rent for certain starbases.

In fact that gives me an idea! new post time!

There's multiple factions of Korx.  There's the neutral Korx, would would sell their own mother into slavery for a profit, and then there's the evil Korx, who would dice up and package their mother into boxes of Korx meat to sell to the Drengin for Christmas treats.   I personally like the Evil Korx faction better.   I don't care much about the Trade, although there might be a way to make a substantial amount of dough from it.

Well of course I start wars as Korx I generally pick my opponents already at the start and don´t establish traderoutes to them so that I do not loose investments. But I couldn´t imagine to play Korx without traderoutes. Then I guess it is legitimate to play them neutral from a roleplay point of view as well as strategically.

As for the traderoutes: There is not only the aspect of money but also the diplomatic. Someone who earns good money from you wouldn´t attack you so eagerly.

Yep,

I always play them as neutral, I've never agreed with the idea that profit-mongering as a primary agenda is evil.
