"The Desktop Window Manager is not running, DeskScape requires the Desktop Window Manager (uxsms) service to be running to function."
Figured it! No need to reply to post.
Figured it out as of Sunday, October 19, 2008. All I ended up needing to do was go through the steps to enable Aero, and then I went to change the appearance to a .dream file and it worked... That's two days of my life I won't be getting back.![]()
Hello all,
I just purchased DeskScapes program this afternoon, and have been trying to get it to work all day now... I was talking with someone from support early today, but he was unable to figure it out while we were on the phone but ended telling me he would send me an email with a link to a video codec "mpeg2" from a web site I should try to install. He said this usually always fixes the problem... I think it was late in the afternoon for him on a Friday, and it was Miller time:) (I can relate...:)). Any ways the codec did not work, and since that, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling; I have downloaded the latest direct X version; I have installed a Video Codec manager program to ensure I have the correct codec installed; I tried searching online to find a solution, but I do not usually have a whole lot of luck with that... I tend to search for the wrong things. But I guess I should get to the problem, etc, etc, etc...
Problems:
1. Within the "Desktop Background" window I choose the "DeskScapes Animated Wallpapers" option and click on a .dream file, but everytime I select one I get the message box stating "The Desktop Window Manager is not running, DeskScape requires the Desktop Window Manager (uxsms) service to be running to function."
2. I am curious as to why when I login under the "Administrator" ID I have configured I see more .dream files to choose from then I do when I am logged in under the user ID I downloaded the program under. I had to actually download a .dream file from the web site to get one in the window to test. I have tried running it from the "Administrator" ID as well but it still fails with the same message box "The Desktop Window Manager is not running, DeskScape requires the Desktop Window Manager (uxsms) service to be running to function."
Some System Variables:
Windows Edition: Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1) 64-bit operating system
Setup: I have multiple users configured and installed the application under one of them but entered the administrator password to enable the download.
Version of DeskScapes: V2.00 (#106)
Service & Statuses: Desktop Window Manager Session Manager - Started - Automatic
Installed Codec: Ligos MPEG Video Decoder - Disabled=No
Thanks,
