Tremendous lag from Shield Projection

Here are my system specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz

4 GB RAM

nForce 650i Ultra

GeForce 8800 GTS

700w PSU

WinXP 32 SP2

I typically have no problems running this game and experience minimal slowdown with huge fleets, but Shield Projection from the Iconus Guardian really screws things up.  The AI loves to build a ton of these things, and have all of them cast it at virtually the same time which slows down my game by a ton and makes it incredibly difficult to micro, not only because of the slowdown, but because of how hard it is to see ANYTHING inside of the area of effect.

Its incredibly annoying to try and nagivate through a cloud of 50 shield projections which practically make up an almost opaque orb of ugliness, and really ruins the game experience when it comes down to it.  Is there a mod that removes it completely or at least changes the aura to something more simple like Target Uplink?

come on, surely im not the only one who has an issue with this.  I know someone with a better computer than mine and also is annoyed by it.

This one is well known :P Everyone has issues with it :)

The only advice I can give (short of changing the particle effect like you asked about) is to turn off Bloom if you have it on. It won't help with the "Holy crap my eyes burn" effect, but it should make it run quite a bit smoother in the shield blob.

Yeah, that Shield Projection can really make things choppy, especially when you have many Iconus Guardians in your fleet. I just zoom the map out to a farther distance when all those things go off. I also play at a lower resolution on purpose so the game will run better in general.

I was actually concerned that no one but me had a problem with it cause I couldnt find any topics on it by searching for relevant keywords.  The thought scared me enough to think that something was wrong with my machine.  While it does suck that its a widespread problem im at least glad that I now know im not the only one.  I just got started on trying to mod the game so hopefully I can figure out a way to turn the graphic off or lower its intensity.

I got back to you in the other thread where you asked how to change the effect ;)

Is IC working on a way to minimize lag from this effect. by offering an option to really simplify the graphic?

(although I kind of like the effect as it sort of acts like a smoke screen is space making target selection a little more dificult).

Not to my knowledge. There have been suggestions in the past on how to change it but so far IC hasn't said if they're going to do anything about it.
