Sins vs. MoO3

How does Sins and MoO3 stack up? I know Sins is RT not Turn base but will it have a huge galaxy or galaxies with hundreds of planets/systems to fight over. Game play do you build ships with acquired technologies make your planets better with tech's etc. I have read about it on the home page but it is not the depth I am looking for. I would like a better description of Sins if you could.

Will Sins have as much content in it as MoO3?

I think its going to be difficult for any RTS to match the complexity and micro management of MoO3. From my perspective its difficult to compare the two. They are different animals so to speak. I can tell you that the economy is MUCH easier to use in Sins than it was in MoO3.

You do research technology to build better ships and equipment. You can research planetary shields, fighter defenses, and such for your planet defense. Im slowly getting used to using tactics in my fleets too, ya just can run in a opponents system with 50 ships and expect to win. Your ships also earn experience, which improves their HP, damage, and special abilities.

its kinda early though to have the in depth storyline and such things, they gotta get the core functions to work right first however they are adding more and more content to the game each time theres an update.

I myself really enjoy the graphics/eye candy and have a difficult time going back to MoO. Although id really want to see true planet destoryers in the game (and then a way to reassemble them or asteroid belts into useable planets) id still play it if it didnt.

Thats just my views though, im not a stardock guy just a gamer.

I wouldn't really even try to compare the two, myself. The only good thing about MOO3 to me was the ad for GalCiv1 that came with it and set me on the path to my job

Ya, you cant compare Moo3 with any decent game, and that wasnt the only good thing with Moo3. The other good thing, is that its a perfect example of what not todo when making a sequel.

i also want to ask this question.
Furthermore: how long will average single player game against multiple hard AI take? 30 hours? 50? 80?

That is possible if you set it to that size. But a huge game can last many hours (probably not QUITE so long as you propose, though).

I was very active in Moo3 until the Sins Beta became available. It is taking me about 5 hours to conquer the 3 system game which includes probably 8 planets per system. You will be able to create a lot of systems, some on this forum have mentioned 100 worlds in a system. It is smaller scale than Moo3. With certain game play limits in the game it is not ending up like Moo3 where I never looked forward to the last 1/3rd of the game. Once you become so powerful in Moo3 it was impossible for the ai to beat the player or even to put up a good fight, you just rolled over the ai system by system. In SOASE it takes a while to invade a neighboring system and the ai has mounted good counter attacks in the game I have played.

I probably played Moo3 more than any other game, SOASE is a very different game, they just happen to have the same subject matter. So far I much prefer not having to do all the micro managing in Moo3 or turning things over to a imho a dubious planetary ai. You can have a large empire in SOASE without being bogged down in the detail. SOASE is alot about combat more so than planetary logistics.

The one thing it has in common with Moo3 is that it has a good forum.

I am looking forward to Sins coming out. I am one who liked MoO3 and I am looking forward to a game up-to-date without so much micromanagement. Yet I look for a good 4X space game and hope this will be the one.

I never played MOO3 but I was an avid player of the previous two MOOs. However, my brother played MOO3 (also a lover of MOO1 and MOO2) and hated it. I hope that Sins turns out a lot better than MOO3 (which I curse for ruining the franchise which first introduced me to 4x gaming!   )

Don't I wish it had lead me to your job, too

A very long time. once they fix the AI, anyway.

The default "custom" galaxy allowed up to 100 planets and 10 stars -- it was possible to edit those limits, however. So for those with really good computers, 1000's of planets and 100s of stars is possible, probably.

I am still an active MOO3 player and am looking forward to play Sins. I just hope there's more than combat in the game...i want the diplomacy to mean something. I wish Sins is going to be Knights of Honor in space.

To comment on EBITAD's statement on the end game, i'd say it's been one of the great weaknesses in most empire building games. Some solutions (Senate victory in MOO1, Conquest of 2/3 of the Universe in BotF, the various victory conditions in GalCiv...) have been very implemented. The problem with MOO3 is that the Senate victory happens too soon (except when using Bhruic's patch) and the Antaran mystery solution is mostly luck.

I hope that endgame in Sins will be fun
