Sceenshots or not sceenshots

Well, since i don't upload one (    ), there's (as it seems) a polemical about uploading Screenshots and if who's uploading screenshots can be qualified as "skinners" or not. To say firstly, i'm one of those who came to customize my desktop because i found one day one screenshot which told me 'WOW, nice it is, how can i do that ?" Not so far, there was in "gallery" a web page as section "Sceenshot of the day" ... i can see that now it's no more "Screenshot of the day" but Screenshot "When we want to change it" Of course i've readen a thread (stupid i think) of a golden award rabit for screenshot (or something like that). OK in the idea why not, but though, what's the utility of a main "Screenshot of the day" ?? I've also seen C242 who's asking if those who upload screenshots too much are really using them. Well, what's the essential thing ??? For what i'm thinking (as an "old" user of skinning and screenshootering as well) both are not to be uposed, i was very glad when i began to tweak my desktop to find some ideas in screenshots ... What's the goal of offering skins ?? Hhhhhhhhhuuuummmmmffffffffff ? OK there's over there some WB skins, some over there, some WP, and so on. Just think of this, the last is to present ONE desktop which glads user. Eveything's else is talking about nothing.

Im not quite sure what your saying but if its about the "screen shot of the day' on the gallery page that never changes for a month..then you can see why we now have a Golden Ratpig.

I think it's a good thing that the "screenshooters" are getting together in this manner. That's what community is all about.

screen shots are a intrensical part of desktop customization... while they are not as diffucult or as time consuming to make, they do display the uploaders happyness with the objects they have assembled, and from what im told, is the best compliment any author could get...

many screens have gotten the "Dude thats killer how can i do that?" comments... and spurd folks to start customizing ther desktops as well...thus adding to the community downloaders and supporters.. and occasionally a skinner is born...

Many of us upload screens of things we have Ported/Modded...

Most arent looking for recognition. but more of acceptance...but often were dealt rejection.

I hope that has/will change and every body, from the authors and coders to the porters,Screen shotters, downloaders,etc will appreciate each other...theres no reason to look down at each other...it is the community as a whole that makes this place great... not just 1 individual...

Skinners->Skins
Skins goes to Downloaders, certain downloaders make screenshots(screenshooters)
Screenshots are saw by Downloaders/Users who Download
You know what? ScreenShooters make our advertisement for free and in more they tell us they love our stuff and that we need to keep it up.

RESUM: Skinners without Downloaders/ScreenShooters = 0

We are a community all of us the biggest from the smallest, and Respect is really due to these people who make screeny/advertisement/compliment/support for FREE (ok sometimes for a chocolate box )

That's also a good resume of what i think ( )

Things over customizing a desktop are becoming more and more expensive (well, not too much at a time, but as there is no much complete free suites done .... Other way, if you want to get a nice desk, if you're a skinner and can do it, everything's fine, if you're a non skinner but can do tweakings and you may go with it and with a bad headache, it will be not too bad, and if you're just a user, then, good luck )

Again, I see no use in doing screenshots of completely different setups on a daily basis.

The question for me is : What was so great about the shown setup that the screenshooter praises it with nice words and on the contrary he/she only works with it a few hours (max) and then moves on to the next completely different one ???

For me I only show shots of the environment I am lucky with at the moment and will for sure use several weeks or of course for promotion of selfmade skins, which is a complete different thing at all.

As for the promotion of other authors argument : Are the shots provided with great skins really so bad that they need another one to make them good ?

Screenshots are a good thing providing they contain all the detail necessary for someone to recreate the look. Nothing is more frustrating for those new to skinning than to see something they like and not know what the skins are.

I have no problem with people posting lots of screenshots if it's passing on ideas about how to customize your desktop. Encouraging new people to have a go at customization is always a good thing. A screenshot is often a new person's first port of call.

That's why (as i can) i've a WWW which is speaking in french (and i did a fairly good tutorial - really it is - for doing Bootskins really easily and without troubles ...   , What? it's not a BIG advertising for Stardock ?? just on this thread i get about 100 connections a day ...   )
