Still can not run Dark Avatar under VISTA

I tried to install the latest beta nvidia driver per AVATARS suggestion but the nvidia install program that came with it would not install it. It gave me an error message saying"setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. setup will now exit". I pretty much am giving up at this point. I've either got to decide to install XP on my system, wait for nvidia to release a new non beta driver or not play this game anymore which is too bad as I really like it. Any further suggestions?

One idea would be to go into your BIOS and disable your video card and use the on-board one.

The process is as follows:

1. Reboot system, go into BIOS. Turn OFF your offboard video card, turn ON your onboard video card. (remember to plug your monitor into the port for it at the back of your 'puter).
2. Get back into the Vista LOADING screen and hit F8, this will bring up the Vista options menu.
3. Boot into safe mode.
4. Go into Device Manager and identify your current video card.
5. Locate the driver set for it and download it, then install it.
6. Reboot your 'puter again.
7. Play GalCivII.

VISTA is a wreck. Dead in the water. Microsoft screwed up big time with their paranoid "premium content" security check routines and tilt bits. The result is that VISTA is not stable and will not be for some time, as hardware suppliers face the impossible task of programming drivers for this monster. Save your nerves, go back to XP.

my 2cts.

If you have a laptop chipset or other GPU not supported in the standard reference drivers, unfortunately there's nothing that can be done to run the game reliably on Vista until nVidia releases proper drivers for your system.

Allways the case when an NEW OS is realised wait a while till new drivers and updates are realised before changing system.

I thank you for your suggestions. I down loaded the beta driver from laptoptogo video.com and manually installed it. Within 15 minutes the installation was complete and so far I am once again able to play Dark Avatar. I'd suggest anyone using a laptop to do the same until nvidia releases a new update. Their web site also includes a step by step manual on how to do this for xp or vista which makes it very easy to do.
