SANTA VS SATAN

SANTA VS SATAN

The following piece was written by my college son and published in the newspaper. I thought it was thought provoking. The newspaper has received quite a few comments on this.

Santa vs. Satan

It is a complicated, biased, horrible train of thought. On the one hand stands Santa Claus himself. We normally drive the thought into our child’s mind that Santa Claus, Ole’ Saint Nick, is the saint of the modern times. Santa Claus brings presents, which in turn bring joy to us all. Perched on the other hand is the darkened figure of Satan. The red-clothed devil appears with a pitchfork and breathing fire through his nostrils. With a quick switch of letters; a move of an A here, a switch of a T there; and a bounce of an N over here transforms our lovely characters into a surprising conclusion. After the scramble we realize the Divinci Code of Christmas: Santa Claus and Satan are the same being!

It makes perfect sense and is now understandable after all this time. Growing up, running to the Christmas tree to open presents was always the highlight of the month of December. The distraction of presents kept us from realizing the true meaning of Christmas. Christ. Instead of praising the birth of our Lord, we instead worship the red-stained fattened figure of Santa Claus. Trying to gain our praise, worship and…our souls. Since the creation of time, another figure has tried this trick. Sound familiar?

A fat red figure slips down our chimney’s every winter, while we are all sleeping soundly, not noticing the temptations…I mean presents…that are put all over our homes. We can never catch this character, or even see him for that matter, but his evidence is left all over. A faint remembrance of another such person tickles our minds, yet the fond memories of presents dominate our thoughts. Temptations, in the form of presents for those who “believe in him” and a habit of showing up untraceable are familiar. Sound familiar?

Now for the red costumes. We have always seen our favorite fat fellow every December 25th in a red coat large enough to capture his large figure. This man of gluttony, temptation and giver of selfishness dons a cap of red, pants of red and boots as dark as his heart. Red is a symbolic color. It represents many things- anger, heat, fire, danger and…the great man downstairs. Sound familiar?

It is a hidden subtleness that is represented underneath the cloak of happiness. The happy fat man that brings us all joy is more than just happy and fat, he’s the devil. It is time to let the children know the truth of this dishonest secret that has been held since Satan has overtaken the identity of Saint Nick.

Santa no more, Satan has no power here!

It makes me ill, just like people who believe Harry Potter is satanic. Do you believe that, KFC?

now are you talking Harry Potter as in the actor who plays him? The story itself? I believe what ithe story s projecting is not great. So no as a Christian parent, those ideals in that book I would not promote nor would I encourage my young children to read them. If they wanted to read tthis, as older children, I wouldn't forbid it either. There would be discussion tho about witchcraft, magic etc and how it lines up with what God wants for us. I believe what we put into our minds and hearts should be guarded ,and as a parent it's my responsibility to watch what my children watched and read. I took this seriously.

Santa Claus is about being good.

Baker, you don't seem to get this. This whole idea/story has to do with the spiritual not the physical. Sure on the physical, it's wonderful. Santa is a good guy. No question. I've never met a bad Santa. I liked them all.

But isn't that how Satan works? He's certainly not going to reveal who he really is. He projects as an angel of light. I believe the early church Apostles that pleaded with us not to forget this. Even Jesus said himself that Satan would decieve "even the elect" if he could. That's how good he is. That's why we are urged to "test the spirits."

Here's a kicker for ya Baker. My son, who wrote this article, is a college junior and has his picture taken every year with his girlfriend sittting on Santa's lap.

If he thought the nice guy he was sitting on was Satan, he wouldn't be there.

I got a better Idea.  Why dont we think about those who lost things or people.  Not physical or metaphysical.

Why dont we remember the season, and the reason, and stop this bickering.  It seems so very petty, when a friend has lost their best friend.  Or is it just me?

Sorry, As a Catholic (sorry for those who pretend to speak for me), I have never been offended by KFC.  As a person, I do not believe as she does, but I respect her beliefs.

And as a being, I am truly sorry that I cannot be there more for my fellow being in his worst hour.  And that has nothing to do with Satan or Santa or Catholics or Jews.

Just a man who is hurting bad right now.  And all alone.

People always have some way of validating the fact that they condone in their personal lives what they preach against in others'. Here's a suggestion, why bother with it at all if your point is so vague that you are still hanging out stockings and sitting on Satan's lap? If the guy in the red suit isn't Satan, and the suit isn't Satan, then no one is really doing anything different than you are, right?

Unless you think the rest of the world actually somehow believes in Santa Claus as a real entity, we deal with Santa on the "physical" just as you do. So there's no "worship", there's no idolatry, there's no being distracted by "Satan". We do the same stuff you do, the only difference is you appear to be preaching the evils of it while you go on doing it yourself.

There's a word for that, right?

P.S. Doc, if KFC has the right to tell us to go home and tell our kids that Santa is Satan, then I have the right to answer it. Stop sitting here and trying to pretend you are any more elevated because you aren't offended.

If you have some reason that I don't have the right to answer what was put forth here, say it. Otherwise don't give me the moral high road, because I've seen you right down in the mud in other topics that you could have easily been less sensitive about.

I happen to agree with Doc - stop the bickering now, you have both said what you think and you both have very clear and opposing views on the subject.

It is christmas and it is time to share, it is time to heal, it is time to love and it is time to give..........PLEASE give to one another understanding and love.

I also agree with what Doc said about Mason, he is alone and he is hurting right now, as a community put aside these negative feelings and lets pull together for Mason and spread some cheer, sharing and getting along.

Christmas is not a time to be at one anothers throats even if the subject concerns christmas.

Jennifer1: Odd then you didn't have much but "interesting" to say to KFC when she decided to drop this steamer on the Christmas spirit. If KFC wants to remove it, I won't have anything to post on. I didn't see any concerns for hurt feelings on her part when she posted this. I'd feel more apt to receive your protest as sincere if you'd responded the same to:

"Instead of praising the birth of our Lord, we instead worship the red-stained fattened figure of Santa Claus."

The whole blog above is an insult.

Dr. Guy: I feel for him, but I don't see the bickering stopping about any other subject. We'll see if the bickering ends on the "flying imams" or the "Europe on the brink" blogs. I don't know why this one subject should be quelled if the right-wing zealots are allowed to continue their tirades against their foes and vice versa.

If KFC doesn't want to continue this she can blacklist me, or do the honorable thing and accept the hypocrisy of it and delete it. She's still hanging stockings while she's posting ignorant junk like this, so it doesn't seem to be heart-felt anyway.

If they want to have a hiatus on quibbling site-wide, I'll honor that, too. I dunno why you guys are here whining to me when there are fights going on elsewhere. I don't see you guys over at Col Gene's "Iraq" blog telling Paladin77 to shut up.

Probably because this particular thread is about Christmas - which is supposed to be a time of joy, love and sharing...not bickering about what is right or wrong about christmas.
I've yet to say anything is wrong with Christmas. I'm taking exception to someone telling me that part of what I do is wrong. If she wants to take it back, there'll be nothing to talk about. If she keeps defending the ignorant, hypocritical nonsense, I'll keep posting.

I mean, wtf?? You guys are coming down on ME, when she is here likening other people's beliefs and practices to devil worship? If she was here saying Mohamed was the devil no one would be crapping on me for taking issue with it. Say the same thing about a Jewish practice and you might find yourself tossed off the site as a whole. What you tolerate defines you, and I refuse to be tolerant of this filth.

She has the right to say it, but when she does she should expect what she gets. If she doesn't get it, she gets a pass on her ignorance. Don't expect me to shut up.

Careful, there's no Jesus in that santa picture. He's a red-stained hound of hell, deceiver and foe of God, remember.

Christmas Thoughts

Some people think of Christmas
As sleigh rides in the cold
A tree that glistens of tinsel
And decorations of silver and gold.

Some people think of Christmas
As stockings dressed in red
A crackling glowing fireplace
And a warm and cozy bed.

Some people think of Christmas
As faces filled with glee
Sharing stories, fun and laughter
And gathering 'round the tree.

Some people think of Christmas
As gifts wrapped up in blue
Writing letters to their loved ones
And Christmas caroling too.

Some people think of Christmas
As snow falling on the ground
The hustle and bustle of shoppers
And the joy that's spread around.

Some people think of Christmas
As Christ on Christmas day
And families joined together
With heads bowed down to pray.

Some people think of Christmas
As the Lord who dwells above
Who sent His son to die for us
And gave the gift of love.

I really think you need to get your thoughts and mind in order KFC. To say: "Satan already has the Jews blinded to Christ" infers that Jews are swayed from JUdaism by Satan. Where do you get irresponsible statements like this? Jews, like Muslims and Hindus (Buddhists too), are not led anywhere by Satan. If you regard Christianity as the only religion your mindset is incredibly narrow. uind

And you don't speak for all Catholics, either. Personally, I found the article distasteful--especially coming from someone who has repeatedly put down the Catholic church.

I can respect KFC's beliefs, it would be nice if she respected everyone else's, and I don't get the impression that she does.

I hate to admit it--but Baker has some good points

CRAP! Well, since I am honor-bound to disagree with shadesofgrey in all circumstances, I suppose I have to accept that I am wrong about this, lol...

OK, folks...let's remember the reason for the season...

PUNKIN PIE!

Good grief, y'all are just a pack of heathens!

Well I guess I accomplished what I set out to do. Are you thinking I didn't realize how you would react? You've all just gave me great insights into your hearts. I now can say I know you all quite a bit better because of this little article. Some of it ain't pretty at all. You really should listen to yourselves. I see alot of hate and anger thrown around here. It's ugly. Don't blame me for this.

You can blame no one but yourselves for your attitudes. Your attitudes should not be dictated by your circumstances. You should be kind, loving, considerate to others no matter what is thrown your way.

This article for crying out loud was just to make you THINK. That's it. Give me your insights but please leave your insults behind.

If you remember the very first line started out saying that many comments were made when this was first published. It was no diff here. I can see very clearly the two lines here that were drawn.

I knew from the get go.....you don't mess with Santa Claus. I knew that. In fact David and I talked about this before I decided to print this. I just wish you would defend Jesus like you do SC.

Do I believe the Santa down the street is Satan incarnae? No. Do I believe that Satan can use this whole Santa thing for his good? Absolutely. We know that "all things work together for good" from God's perspective. We know that God can take bad situations and make them wonderful, meaningful, lovely, giving us hope in the midst of some very bad struggles. Satan on the other hand, as a mirror image of God, does just the opposite. He takes good and uses it for his advantage. He is deceitful, a liar, and will do all he can do to turn us away from God. Tell me as you drive around, how many depictions of the navity do you see? How many of Santa and his reindeer do you see? I was out tonight. I didn't see one navity but saw several SC. For crying out loud, one yard had the whole North Pole depicted. Quite a light show.

Ask yourselves. Does Santa draw you closer to Jesus? Or does it just make you feel good? There is a big diff.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

REMEMBER:

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

Now if you'll excuse me.......I'm going to get some of that pumkin pie........

If only I had known it was that easy to get you to cave, I'd have tried it a long time ago!

Merry Christmas all!

KFC--Just because I disagree with you and find your take on St. Nick to be offensive, does not mean that I am not kind, loving and considerate to others. Who are you to judge me (or anyone else) anyway?

Why is it that you can state your opinion about this but anyone who challenges you has a problem with their "attitude"?

My relationship with God is none of anyone's business--it's between me and God. And frankly, I don't need to wear my faith on my sleeve and announce it to others on a daily basis in order to be secure in my faith.
