Does Anyone Remember Gal Civ I on OS/2?

This game just brought me down memory lane. I remember buying and playing Galalctic Civilations I for OS/2 ver 2.0. This was the only OS that the game played on and this was back in 1994 or 95. Back then Stardock was only an OS/2 coimpany and one of the few who only made the games for OS/2. I see that it has evolved very nicely since then.

I must admit I played the OS/2 version on a server at work with several other technicians in the early 90's.

I've always wanted to play it. I wonder how hard it would be for someone at Stardock to port it. Hint Hint

I read about the storyline - apparently the colony ship Santa Maria's micro-impulse drive malfunctioned and was sent into another galaxy where some of the current races resided (Albeit in a less developed form). I got all this from a google search, so I'm hoping it's right! Either way, the game was apparently very good from what I've read, so I'd definitely be interested in seeing/playing it.

As I said, it sounds fun, and I would definitely like to see a port sometime in the future!  Of course, you're pretty busy at the moment, what with Dark Avatar, etc, but if you find time to port it... *nudge, nudge*

Yes that is correct. At the time, there was no CDROM version for it. Instead it had to be installed from 10 Floppy Disks.

Yep, I've played it many times. In fact I've still got the box and floppies. Art was a little tacky, but I've fond memories of the game and OS.

O/S 2 & Galactic Civ - man, what a delicious memory. Introduced me to strategy games. If IBM had known how to market....Windoze would either be a much better product or just a memory.

I'm at home now, trying to cure a cracked vertebra. Not fun. My girlfriend is picking up GCII for me this afternoon. I've spent so many hours on the OS/2 version all those years ago. Entire weekends without sleep or food. How much different is the current version compared to the OS/2 original? Most importantly, does it suck you in as effectively, making you completely forget about time?

Yes.

Yes.

I concur. It has that "just one more turn" quality that finds you sitting in front of the screen at 2:00 AM and you have to get up to go to work at 5:00 AM.

Dang it!
