Research Bonuses

When this game was first released, I was fairly active in the forums and I think I remember reading a thread about finding 700% bonus to research tiles. I think the general consensus at the time was they didn't exit. I have never modded my files, and my latest game actually had one of these bad boys on a tile. Is this still an extreme rarity, or did one of the later game patches make these a little more common?

They were accidentally missing in the initial release, and were added in 1.2. So they should now appear with roughly the same frequency as 700% manufacturing tiles.

I saw one in my latest game. Unfortunately, it was on an enemy planet. So I bloody well took it over. My own empire had almost no bonus tiles of any kind this go around, so I had to take all of them that way.

Finding one on your home planet is always good for a smile Not that you can use it immediately as it would bankrupt you early on...

I have only ever seen one it was also on an enemy planet.
They had a powerful military but i wanted it and i got it.

Many Billion Soldiers died and many fine Ship where lost but i finally got it.

Sure you can use it! It just saves building those first couple of factories. Build market centres instead and use your boosted research to get to republic ASAP.

Darth Griffin -- gotta say I completely disagree -- a 700% research bonus tile on my homeworld is probably the best bonus tile I could get for my homeworld. Gives me a 2 turn jump just on my first 4 turns of the game. Also never came close to causing a money problem for me.

In one game I was playing, to test a little modding I'd done, I ended up colonizing two planets that had the 700% bonus.

Now if only I could find a high-PQ planet with a 700% research bonus, a 700% manufacturing bonus, and a 300% food bonus... Hey, that'd make for a good scenario: you start out with such a planet as your homeworld, but you're not allowed to colonize any other planet...

In my last game I found a planet (class ~15) with two +300% and one +700% research tiles. How fast can you say "Technological Capital"?

I find the 700% Research bonus tile every few games but for some reason I find the 700% Production bonus tile every game.

Actually have a planet in the game I'm playing right now with 2 300% Production bonus tiles, the 700% Production bonus tile and a 100% Producition bonus tile. The kicker -- its a PQ5 planet... ARRGH!

Never had a problem.

Well I guess you'll have to build your manufacturing capital on the 100% tile and your starport on the blank... yeah, we're all shedding a tear for you!

There are no blank tiles -- the basic colony took the open one...

But shed the tear now -- wave after wave of Torians went after the planet and I have used all my defenses to protect it. Now that my other planets are open they are systematically dismantling my empire.

Still, I think I might be able to rally with this one planet alone...

And this is why Gal Civ 2 is one of the best game I've played in ages...

I know your pain man, one game I found a planet with the 700% production bonus but it was on a PQ4 planet, and to top it off it was so far from my borders that there was almost no use in using it to build ships, now it's just a piece of shit I ignore.

I have to say i started a new game Aug/15 just after my other post about only seeing 700% tile once on a enemy planet,

My home planet had a 700% Manufacturing and i just caputered a 700% Research title that was on an enemy planet.

Having only ever seen one before that i can recall this came as a bit of a shock but welcome suprise
