So I decided to reformat my machine so then I reinstalled IP and it seems to be working much better. The default icons are picked up correctly and most of the user folders can be changed. The version of IP that was installed after the reformat was the same as before so I don't know why it would be so different. I wonder if it was because I had the trial version on first? Who knows but all seems to working much better.

So I read around and the Stardock site and read some of the posts and was lead to believe that IconPackager was working fine with Vista. I decided to purchase it and what a waste of money it was. It's so damn buggy so far and I hope an updated version comes out again. One of the biggest bugs I have seen so far is that if you revert back to the Windows default icons most of your stock icons will look like crap or the wrong icon will be displayed. Examples...
