My husbands fifth number is an odd number. Mine is an even number. We are both white. Kind of puts that rumor to rest!

the only thing that has an affect on your SSN is your birthplace.

No, but that is what the initial post was about. Every citizen is required to have a Social Security Number in order to be eligible to exercise the rights mentioned in #12. It is also mandatory that a chunk of your paycheck goes to Social Securuty for the government to use your money how they wish and return it to you in installments of sorts when you are either 55 or 65. It was meant to be part of a 3 step plan to take care of the elderly 1. Social Security 2. Pension or Retirement plan from work 3. your life savings. Right now, the first two are a bit of a joke, and people invest in IRA's CD's, 401 K's, Sarseps, and mutual funds to prepare for retirement. Or hope that your kids love you enough to take care of you.

Mine's odd, grandmother on father's side was Cherokee, father put me down as Cherokee on my birth certificate but I registered for SS when I was 12 (first job) and I'm pretty sure as white. I do know that my first three numbers are very common among the people I grew up with. I think 2 and 3 number are the year you were born, but it may just be a coincidence in my case.

That's right. When the government is ready to round up every one who's not white all they have to do is go down the list and find all the odd numbers.
WHAT A CROCK OF CRAP!!

There should be a law having people pass a stupidity test before they're allowed to buy a computer.

I'm white, my wife is black, out son is somewhere in between, and our SSN's disprove the tin-foil hat theory. Plus, my mom and myself have the same, and my sister and dad have the same--so if there is an identification system, then it really sucks.

I have another conspiracy theory: the feds as dating service (and a good one at that). My wife and I have very similar SSN's, and we've been happily married for several years now. Obviously, Uncle Same knows what he's doing and set us up at birth, which is quite a feat since we were born thousands of miles apart. What, a single case isn't enough to generalize to a population of 290 million?
