Positioning conflict between Start11 and Fences

I am looking for a solution to a positioning conflict between Start11 (v2.71) and Fences (v6.46) on Windows 11 (Build 25H2).

The Setup:

  • Start11: Configured to place the Windows 11 taskbar on the right edge of the screen.
  • Fences: Most fences are placed at the bottom edge of a dual-monitor setup, kept in rolled-up mode.
  • Workflow: This allows me to drag browser links directly into the bottom-aligned Fences.

The Issue:

  • During system startup or "Switch User" events, Fences appears to initialize before Start11. When Start11 finally loads, it briefly renders the taskbars at the bottom of both screens before moving them to the right. This flicker of the bottom taskbar knocks all my bottom-aligned Fences upward (regardless of whether they are locked). They remain displaced, eventually getting buried under other windows.

What I’ve Tried:

  • I managed to fix cold boots by disabling the Fences autostart and using Windows Task Scheduler to delay the Fences launch by several seconds. However, this doesn't reliably solve the issue when switching users or logging off/back in, as the timing of the shell reload is inconsistent.

Request:

Is there a way to force Fences to wait for the Start11 taskbar position to finalize, or a setting within Start11 to prevent that initial bottom-edge render?

Thanks!

Moved to Fences area

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I tested this one. And, I can reproduce this one. But, I finally can somehow "Fix" the tabs to stay at the bottom edge on my system. What I did to make it stick at the bottom are these steps.

  1. Move the Fences at the bottom edge of the screen. Check if it roll up and roll back down as you move your mouse in and out of the Fences title area.
  2. Do a layout backup.
  3. Rename it to something easy for you to identify it later.
  4. Reboot the system.
  5. If those bottom Fences still move up. Just do a layout restore using the one you just save.
  6. This should make your Fences back down to location you wish it for.
  7. On my system, once I done step 6 once. The location, stay at the bottom. It survive reboot.

Below screenshot was taken right after my Windows 11 system booted up.

Thank you.

Thanks, basj! I have used that fix, but it's not that elegant. It's just as easy to leave my fences unlocked and move them to where I want them. when they get shoved up by Start11. I wonder if there's a way to place a shortcut to that particular restore backup on my desktop. I don't see a way to do that.

I mostly wanted to alert the developers about this bug, and posting here seems the best way to do that.
