Uncanny Accuracy Under 1.72.496532

First, let me say that this is not a complaint!  I am thoroughly enjoying winning battles against the Drengin on the Godlike setting, but it does not seem like what is happening should be happening, so ...

I just had a couple of battles against Drengin fleets that I thought would be very close, but instead I won them with little to no damage.  After the battles, I looked at the battle logs and was surprised to see that my missiles hit their targets with well above the advertised 50% accuracy (55% with a targeting computer). My kinetic attacks also hit with above their advertised 67% accuracy (72% with a targeting computer).  The first screen snapshot below shows that, of the 13 visible missile attacks by my Frigates, 100% of them scored a hit with full damage.  The second screen snapshot below is from farther along in the battle and shows 100% success with kinetic, beam, and missile attacks.

Here is a save file on DropBox that you can load to look at the Battle Logs and perhaps fight a few battles yourself:

The battles took place in range of one of my military starbases, but I am not aware of any accuracy effect from a military starbase.

Please take a look and let me know if I have just been extraordinarily lucky or if a bug was introduced in version 1.72.496532.

That's quite the accuracy, and this has been a consistent thing in the latest build?

I wouldn't say "consistent" because consistent means every time, but it does happen very often.

Frigates have 100% accuracy

Do you know that for a fact or are you speculating?  If you know it for a fact, where is that shown within the game?

TFrigates have 50% bonus accurcy:

hence missiles= 50+50= 100%

all other weapons better obviously!

Thank you for the information.  I hadn’t put those pieces together.

After Frog_gamer's post, I decided to do a little investigation.  What I found leads me to believe that we need a dev with knowledge of the current state of combat math to weigh in.

When I looked at the accuracy numbers for each of the weapons that are currently available to me under 1.72.496532 I found that ALL beam weapons have an accuracy of 140%, ALL missile weapons have an accuracy of 100%, and all kinetic weapons have an accuracy of 117% (screen snapshots for all 3 weapon types appear below).  Stupid math people like myself see accuracy numbers of over 100% and wonder if I just don't understand how the new math works, or maybe there is something about what "accuracy" means in the context of the game that I don't understand.

The next to last screen snapshot shows the first round of attack (all missiles) in my most recent battle.  It shows a few things that I do not understand:

  1. Why was the enemy ship (D.E.S.Thug M4-10) able to fire it's missile in Phase 2 while my ships had to wait until Phase 4 to fire our missiles?
  2. If missiles have 100% accuracy, why did 7 out of the 13 missiles fired miss?  Clearly, there must be some other factor that goes into whether a missile hits it's target other that accuracy.  What is the formula for determining a hit or a miss?
  3. Given that I had 13 strong ships attacking 2 weak enemy ships, why did all 13 shoot at the same ship?  Shouldn't the game use some intelligence in determining how many attacking ships should fire at each defending ship or give the player the ability to assign which ships to target with each attacking ship?  When a targeted ship is destroyed, the player should then be able to assign the remaining attacking ships to new targets.
  4. Given that all 13 of my ships were identical and had a missile attack value of 17.0 (see the Combat Rating shown in the last screen snapshot below), why did 8 of the 13 attacks only have an attack value of 1? 12 of the 13 were 5 or less. Was I just extremely unlucky with the random number generator or is there something else at play?  What is the formula for determining an attack value?

That's all for now.  My main point is that, while there should be some randomness in battle, the results of a battle should reasonably meet a player's expectations.  If you say a missile has 100% accuracy, having it miss over half of the time does not meet expectations.  Saying a ship has a missile attack value of 17.0 and then have 12 out of 13 shots be less than half of that does not meet expectations.  If the devs have a good explanation for what we are seeing, please provide it both here and in the game.
