Cursorfx 4 System Tray Icon

Can I remove the system tray icon

I recently bought Cursorfx 4 in an attempt to reconcile a minor issue I have with the classic version and multiple screens, namely the cursor image jumps to the center of one of the monitors when moving between them. I didn't feel it was worth the trouble to find a fix. The classic program is 5 years old the fact that it works 99% of the time is amazing. Then I got wind of a new version andI bought it right away. I've installed it and now I have a new systray icon, one that I can't remove without closing the program. Please tell me I'm missing an option to disable this somewhere. I've managed to keep my system tray free from clutter and a small visual bug in classic isn't enough to push me towards a new version that is slightly more intrusive (to my desktop space). If there isn't a current fix can I please place a request for the option.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. That should not happen. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

I followed your instructions but I still have the system tray icon present at all times that the program is running. If I right-click the icon my only options are configure cursorfx and close cursorfx.

Few questions.

  1. Your Windows version, please use Winver.exe to get Windows full version numbers.
  2. CursorFX versions.
  3. Do you installed CursorFX in its default directory.

Cursorfx version 4.03

Yes it is installed in the default directory. 

I've noticed an odd thing. The systray icon is only visible when a custom cursor is applied. I can have the cursorfx program open without a systray icon as long as the windows default cursor set is applied.

This only happen on specific cursor or any cursors style other than Windows default Cursor?

It happens with all the supplied cursors and the few I have downloaded as well. Right clicking and choosing to "close cursorfx" from the systray icon only stops the cursor theme skinning, the cursorfx application will continue to stay open.

Hello,
Not really sure what is happening on your system. One though that come to mind if you have scan your system to see if you have some corrupted system files.

Please try the following:

  1. For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.
  2. Type: sfc /scannow
  3. Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)
  4. Some help on how this looks should you need it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system
  5. If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:
  6. dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  7. Some help on how this looks should you need it: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

It found and fixed errors on first run. I rebooted and ran again and found nothing. Another reboot and the systray icon is still present.

I discovered quite by accident while using IconPackager, when Windows Explorer restarts, the CursorFX tray icon disappears. CursorFX continues to work properly even though the tray icon is missing. You could use this as a work-around by going to the Task Manager and restarting Windows Explorer to remove the tray icon for CursorFX, however, the next time you reboot your system it will be back. 

You could also try turning off the CursorFX tray icon in the Windows 10 Settings>Personalization>Taskbar>Select which icons appear on the taskbar and see if that works.

I'd like that too. The more options, the better. WindowBlinds has this feature, why not for CursorFX? It's not like you need a permanent icon, as if you needed to change the settings often.

The program is awesome, BTW. And cheap.
