RTS - Real Time Strategy, requires pause not end turn. I dislike paradox due to thier DLC policy. I still get an occasional game from them however, so its not hate
4x, due to its nature, has always been turn based, there have been experiments, Star Wars comes to mind here as an rts/4x hybrid example that is, but there has never been any rule that 4x should be turn based exclusive. eXplore eXpand eXploit and eXterminate there is nothing more to it.
There are multiple paths to victory of which a couple are non violent, of course, the fervent following of these paths can still bring War on your way.
With the increasing levels of technology i can only applaud Matrix's attempts with Polaris Sector and Distant Universe and certainly Paradox with giving 4x a mainstream appel.
More influences only can broaden this marvelous genre and lets face it, the true rulers and minds of this scene are on such high level
