Game crash when trying to save a ship in designer 1.5 opt-in
I only just started having this issue and I have no idea why, as it was running fine the other day. As far as I can tell nothing has changed -- anyone else having this problem?

1.5 or 1.5.1?
1.5 is no longer opt-in, there is an opt in after 1.5 tho..
It reads 1.5 in the menu, but it should be 1.51. I still have beta opt-in listed, though.
also, upon further investigation, it seems that this issue began when I researched medium hulls. I noticed that a design I fiddled with for engines disappeared, and the game crashes to desktop when I try and modify medium ships.
are you using mods? I had one that caused this problem
Just my own mod ship set. It hasn't been a problem 'till yesterday.
Did you have a similar issue?
It gets weirder.
I ran the game as Admin and modified the file permissions. I first tried a save file from a game that was being played when 1.5 was still opt-in. No problems at all with the designer.
Then I tried going back a game I began when the latest version was official and also a new game. The ship designer crashes without fail when I go to modify cargo vessels, and sometimes medium ship. This time, due to I think, running the game as admin, yadda yadda, I get an error with the crash reading:
"SDCR64.exe No Disk. There is no disk in Drive E, please insert disk"
0.o wtf?
I have this issue as well. All I have to do is click on one of my previously saved (and used since beta) ship templates. It doesn't apply to all of them and it seems to change which one.
When an offending design is clicked on in the designer, GC3 very quickly runs up and out of memory. This is on a 16GB machine. Very quickly means about 5 seconds.
Opening task manager (which takes forever due to swap issues), shows that memory is 99% used BUT GC3 is showing about .8 GB used. When the GC3 task is eventually killed the memory condition disappears.
I went into my saved ship templates and moved the first offending template out of the directory and started a new game. I verified that the template was no longer in game.
The problem then moved to a different template. Perhaps it's related to an offset into an array. It seems like it is always the second user based template in the list but I can't be certain.
I'm not observing the same profile in terms of memory usage you are via task manager, but the other details seem consistent. Cargo designs from my faction will crash the game to desktop whether I wish to add/subtract engines, etc, or draw from the template and add things from scratch.
It's inconsistent with medium designs. I can draw from the template and create a new design from scratch, but modifying the premade designs will crash to desktop.
I don't think it is my custom faction ship set. Why hasn't it been an issue until the other day? I can only guess that something went wrong with the patch, or the steam client update the other day may have broken something. It may be windows 10. Either way, it's really freakin' aggravating.
Getting the E drive error is my only current lead. In device manager, a usb hub had taken up that directory letter. I uninstalled it because there is absolutely no reason I can fathom that a usb hub would need it's own directory, and there are known 'ghost drive' bugs which people encounter. This leads me to the question -- what could galciv 3 need from a non-existent E drive? The hub connects to a G path, for an external backup hard drive... Hmmm.
FunMachine,
I just edited and saved a predefined design without a crash and the "There is no disk in Drive E" error is strange, so we'll need some additional information to solve this problem. Can you submit a ticket please (https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit) ? With your ticket, please include any custom factions you are using as well as the ship design that are causing issues. Thank you.
Hi Paul,
Thank you for the response!
I submitted a ticket:

I added the relevant details as far as I could tell, inc a bunch of files. Hopefully this will be a good start to resolving the problem!
