I no longer play Fallen Enchantress much, but yesterday, my wife gave it a try again. She gave up, rather upset, with the words "The game should not be won or lost depending on whether you can prevent the computer from waking up monsters you cannot deal with".
From what I understand, she could not prevent the AI from waking up a Drake's army, which completely disregarded the AI's city, and proceeded to destroy two of my wife's cities. My wife was playing on Challenging, with a rather good race/sovereign of mine. She was past turn 100 from what I can tell.
I really, really, REALLY think that the worst thing about Fallen Enchantress is that a game can be totally ruined by an army coming from nowhere. I always play with builds that can deal with this kind of shit as early as turn 50-60, and I still lose cities because I did not have any of my main stacks near a city attacked by an beastly monster stack.
I do not give a fuck whether the monsters treat the AI the same way they treat players. I do give a fuck that dozens of players on this forum have their games ruined by RETARDED monster AI. When a monster is disturbed it should destroy what disturbed it, not go for the nearest player city, even if the difficulty is ridiculous+. It is immersion breaking and just stupid.
------------
I found her autosave. I hit end turn a few more times. The Drake destroyed another player city. I revealed the map. There's two hoarder's armies three elemental armies, two ashdragons, and another drake army running around AI territory, and no sign that any AI cities have been destroyed. I am pretty tired of arguing whether the monsters treat the AI the same way they treat players. It may be true that the marked preference of monsters for player cities is due to a bug (my bet would be something to do with fog of war). But it is beyond belief that monsters attack AI cities the way they attack players.
