Impulse became a CPU hog all of the sudden...

Thought it was a virus at first with the lagging of my computer, so I decided to bring up the task manager and saw the CPU at 100%, and it was Impulse....Not sure what happened and why its doing this all of the sudden, I closed it and tried opening it back up and it didn't work. (hogged CPU again)

Any way to fix this? Should I just try and reinstall it or something?

....No one hasn't said anything...what's going on? o_0

I cannot even install Impulse now, it sets up but the instalation progress does NOT increase at all and I've been watching it for about 10-15 minutes now....

Don't open it?

There's a little impulse icon at the very right on your task bar. Click it, select your game, then start.

actually, you don't even need to use Impulse to start your Stardock games.

I use shortcuts to a folder on my desktop (I put the shortcuts into a folder to group all of my Sins shortcuts together; I currently have 6 (Sins, Entrenchment, Dev executables, (that's 4, as it is Sins+Sins Dev+Entrench+Entrench Dev) particle forge executable, and the current version Entrenchment mod folder) to run Sins.

Additionally, during installation, most games place desktop icons and Start Menu shortcuts (I delete the desktop icons/make my own&place in folders). Using the start menu should be fairly straightforward.

What is Impulse used for then? Cause I thought it was used for updating the game as well as downloading the micro expansions...And from the looks of it, I don't think I will be able to get Diplomacy. As long as the program is ACTIVE, it hogs the CPU, and slows it down greatly.

Impulse is used for obtaining updates, and other games in the Impulse Catalog (which is also accessed through Impulse).

If it is hogging CPU, then 1) simply close it. It does not need to be running to run gamesp purchased on it; and 2) you may want to call support, as Impulse isn't supposed to hog a lot of CPU resources.

Just curious BTW, but what are your system specs? They could be a little low, and that is why Impulse seems to be hogging CPU resources.

Can't pull them up right now...but yeah my computer isn't low on specs. At the moment all I can remember right now is the speed is 2.4ghz and 2GB of RAM. And it is difficult to close Impulse, seeing how its still open apparently when you click exit on the toolbar thing. Have to open up Task Manager in order to close it for good....

I think what you are talking about is Impulse Tray? If you right click the icon, choose 'settings' and untick 'load Impulse Now on startup', that should stop it running.

I've just started mine running and it's using 5444k memory and no CPU. Maybe your CPU activity is because it's trying to update but can't. Maybe you have an A/V or firewall product blocking access?

Check your .Net installation... like with Java, you have on the internet numerous thing who are bad news for .Net ... and if .Net have problem, Impulse will have problem...

What do you mean by checking it? I'm not able to install it if that's what you're saying....not sure what's going on, but yeah...not able to reinstall .NET.

End of BellGoRiiing's quote

hmmm... not sure but this can be your problem... if the installed version was right, a reinstall will be very fast since nothing will happen... not being able to reinstall it mean problem...

I bet that you have a windows OS, so, do you have some restore point ? Maybe a restore point just before all your problem can help !

About the .net, i have know problem too recently... a game have install a old version of .net 2.0 ... and the previous version was the last of 3.5 ... because 3.5 modify some of the 2.0 files, i was obligate to install 3.5 again... but i was able to make it...

Lucky that you are not a modder, because without .net , you are nowhere...

I am not a windows expert, i hope that someone else can help you but if i was not able to install something critical like .net, i will be formating and reinstall everything... it is a extreme solution but it always work!!!

In conclusion, if you have problem with .net, forget the Impulse problem... they are related to these .Net... it is not really a Impulse problem... simply something wrong with your system!!!
