Would the game be better if...

Blood of the Fallen was deleted?

I really think this item is OP. A person with Blood of the Fallen vs a person without it will always win an encounter, forcing the other player back to base, and can just camp a flag for the first 10 levels of the game.

Imagine if it was deleted. Then we could enjoy playing with all the other favor items ^^

theres plenty of choices just as good um like....um well you know what im talking about.

I never use it.

I use the cloak of night. Reg players use the poisoned dagger.

It's not very good in late game and it's starting to become redundant in mid. You can effectively cover it with the +hp items you buy in mid game such as unbreakable boots and nimoth, whereas getting a 20% chance 25% slow item is more difficult (closest is Wyrmskin). Getting a good blink item is impossible since Warpstone was nerfed ages ago, making the cloak unique.

I see people using heaven's wrath a bit as well, and the horn of battle for minion builds.

I use it when im not playing Oak which doesn't happen often but...i think cloak of night is a better choice for generals because early game it gives them a nice boost to mana and mana reg it even nets them a teleport, staff of renewal is a good choice for TB and tower rook, and amulet of teleportations good for big maps.

Edit:Ring of divine might is a good choice for minion Oaks aswell.

Being able to escape with another favor item is all well and good, but when it really comes down to it a good player with blood of the fallen will never have to run from a player not using blood of the fallen. Sure you can take poisoned dagger/swift anklets, but if the other player never needs to run, who cares?

All the items you buy with another favor item can just as easily be purchased if you are using blood of the fallen.

If there was no blood of the fallen, all of the other favor items instantly become a lot more viable.

... the point is in the fact that BoF is used for people who want to tank.  Tele amulet definitely has the advantage for a surprise gank/getting to or from base quickly.  If you are upset that someone uses BoF then use it yourself... or is it not in your build so that means it's unfair?

This sounds like it's more a complaint about the strength of a tank build over a damage build.  The usefulness of BotF is a symptom of a greater issue.

The goggles, use them always. They are the best item in the history of online gaming.

No I use BotF all the time, I try other ones every now and then, but everything else feels WAY less effective than it.

The other ones are good fun, which is why I was wondering what it would be like if BotF didn't exist ^^

Aw, I actually enjoyed the brilliant bauble the best, nothing better then sacrificing some amazing favor items for +10% Experience................................ what where they thinking? The damn flag gives you +20%....

So if you'd like to scream BotF needs nerfing... (what else is new, someone else complaining for a nerf) then lets look at all favor items, and see if they need nerfs or buffs, infact, lets look at the entire game...

Things like the +10% exp might actually be viable if BotF didn't exist.

Answer to main post: I think yes, the game would be better.  It just wouldn't feel like it for a while, because everyone would have to be sad that the favor item they were going to use isn't available. (Well, almost everyone). I think the game would end up significantly better balanced however.

Would this be the best change to make? Probably not, but it would at least be in the correct direction.

I use BotF on pretty much everyone I play because I can't reconcile taking anything else.

Hardly. If you enjoy using it all the time, and judging from your posts you do, that's your issue. I change up what items I use depending on what my intentions are with my character for that match. Sometimes, having a rechargable Mana supply is going to be a lot more useful than 800 additional hit points and 5 extra health per second. It's a great item for the early game, but if you're narrowing your views on favour items to the immediate payoff, you're not thinking right.

My only beef with the item is how cheap it is...  Not that it matters when you have 15,000 favor points, but it does seem to be one of the better items and its cost doesn't reflect that, which leads me to question if the designers of it understand how effective it is.

I think there's only a handful of items which are comparably useful, those being the horn of battle, cloak of night, staff of renewal, and blade of the serpent.  Then there's a few which are still good but more situational like the blood soaked wand, but those don't get much usage.

You're ignoring the extra kills you get from being able to chase someone faster than you with a blink item.

You're also ignoring the cases where you are slowed and can't run away, where 800 extra HP isn't going to help you at all. Blink will save you in some of these cases.

In a team game blink is more useful.

This is simply solved, if you feel that is the best item, then utilize it yourself. I see plenty of people take other items. I for one am a big fan of the Staff of Renewal when playing TB, or Reg, and as Sedna I go for the -10% Cooldown item (the name of which evades me currently) so that I chop down a second on my heals + her natural ability to reduce cooldowns. So BotF is good, but its not game breaker, its 800 life, and 5 per second, yes I agree with Obscenitor, it is rather cheap for its amount of usefullness.... but they did a horrible job with Favor Points.... I have every item unlocked, so what now? Favor is useless. I suggested several perks to make saving favor points mean something, such as cosmetic changes, 25,000 favor points Erebus weilds a sword instead of a mace, just to spice things up. I actually made an entire thread on some perks that would give people the desire to grind favor points.... but as it stands, we are lucky to get any additional content for this great game, so I think we just need to except that.

FAVOR IDEAS:

Well, the problem is that favor items were designed to be purchased, and so the crappier ones are cheape; but it's too easy to get favor and so the cost is taken out of the equation leaving us to choose between some mediocre ones, some crappy ones, and a select few that are useful.

Personally I like my Staff of the Warmage (I think that's what the mana one was called) on a few of my characters.

It's a damn good favor item and I find it invaluable.  The only time I will not take it is if the other side does not have many tanks - then I go with the anklet.  Doesn't the vial stack with the +health flag too?  If it does, you are effectively getting another 1K hit points, which is not trivial at any stage of the game.  Furthermore, as been discussed ad naseum, you are healed for more from priests too.

The blink item is decent, but at some level, you have conceded the battle already and you need the blink item to get out.  The extra HP will enable you to force the other guy to run first.  Flag control, specifically the HP flag, is critical on Cataract.  I am more than happy to let someone run if I can control the HP flag indefinitely.
