So I'm looking at the galaxy map and looking at my tourism income and wondering... how do the civies get around?
Surely they don't hop down over to the nearest GMC dealership and buy a shiny new family sized, 6 cupholder, intersteller spacecraft with stow-and-go-seating and plenty of trunk space. I would think they'd travel in a much similar fasion to airports today. And have big 500000 passenger jumbo-space-jets (JSJ) that take care of traveling between planets. (Although I don't know anyone that would take a vacation when it requires several weeks or even months to get there)
So maybe have like a network of planets where civie ships fly to and from going wherever people want/need to go that week. although thats alot of civie ships so you can choose in options to turn off being able to see the lines or the ships (each independantly).
And then have a manager/governer for it somewhere where you can choose to close/open your borders, close/open all transit lines to a certain civilization (for when your at war), or not allow civie ships to travel to some of your planets (like an industrial planet that isn't too... scenic... surely I don't want to be stuck in that starport waiting for the next JSJ to wherever I'm going). And when you close a transit line you lose tourism income from it.
And so there aren't too many lines make it like a system of triangles (no lines overlap, you have to switch JSJs at each thing if its not one planet away) Plus this also creates a more reasonable way for spies to sneak into enemy terretory... amazing how ATM they can just appear on the planet in less than a week (turn) and even my fastest space ships need a few weeks to get there.
Although they could sneak on board trade ships, But I usually don't have a trade ship going to every one of their planets.
I know this kindof transit shouldn't exist at begining of the game for obvious reasons so maybe make it something you can research. Like a module and you can build the ships and send em to establish transit lines...
OR just a tech where when you finish it the network of lines appear on your planets but not anyone elses... then they have to research the tech and suddenly the network of their planets and your planets combines. (I like the second one better)
