SOASE MMORPG? is this possible?

Well, lets see....why this tread? Because i am one eve online player that doesn't like how long it takes to do some progres in that game, because i don't like their 10 years training time to get all the skills and finally because i like SOASE much more and i'll be thrilled to pay a subscription to play it like an MMORPG, so, i am asking you guys, is there any chance that an MMORPG based on SOASE will appear in the near future??

Doubtfull,

Right not they need to fix the bugs in the patch.

Then they are going to work on an expansion...

And Campaign...

And more graphics for less power...

So they hands are kinda full.

Maybee in a few months... or a year or so maybee...

RTS to MMOrpg jump?

unlikely in any time frame

also, EvE is awesome, it's just meant for a more mature audience

Neither Stardock or Ironclad are big enough to develop and support an MMO, especially since Stardock is planning their own MMO (Societies) in the future.

So no, no chance.

I'd be interested in a mod though where you commanded one capital ship and the AI managed the big empires. Probably the closest you'd ever get to an MMORPG.

Warcraft :P

Seriously though, I would love to see another space MMO, especially one where one player could command more than one ship. I would also like to see some sort of "life" dynamic where inhabitants of stations\planets\moons or crew of ships had some sort of impact. EVE lays down a great and unique framework for a different style of MMO, but it lacks in a lot of areas.

Where I do agree in its dark and unforgiving nature, it still lacks alot, especially in the PvE sector... enormously; not to mention the fact that if you don't like PvP, your EVE career is essentially endless mining\manufacturing\BP research to make isk that just continues your cycle. Besides, if you want to just PvP all the time, all you need to do is buy a couple macro ice mining accounts, and voila! free stream of effortless isk >_<

Sorry, I beta tested EVE and have around 3 years of time logged since then...

But that was Blizzard, and Blizzard is HUGE! You know, Developer buying Publisher huge! I didn't even know Stardock existed until Gal Civ 2 so I hadn't even heard of Ironclad or at least I didn't know who they were. (no offense to either Stardock or Ironclad, you guys make awsome games!) When I was loading up this thread the first thing I thought of was EVE...but then I read that you are already an EVE player. *shrugs* I don't know, I think it would be weird for Sins to be a MuMORPeGa.

You've never heard of Ironclad before because this is their first game :P

Well then that solves part of my post. I still didn't know Stardock existed.

They're sneaky like that. Software ninjas!

Short Answer:

No

Long Answer:

After WoW, launching a new MMORPG have been almost suicidal. I personally can not think of any MMORPG released in the past three years that have been "succesfull". The latest big time mmo released, Age of Conan, is not in a strong position, the up coming Warhammer Online game recently cut a lot of features to make the September release date. So right now, any new MMORPG would be a money sink for any company.

P.S. I do like EVE's way of training skills, although it suck that it takes years to train many skills.

P.S.S. http://www.beyondprotocol.com/phpnuke/html/

That a MMORTS currently in development, I personally don't have much hope for it, but I'm keeping an eye on it, it's currently the only game of its type.

That's why EVE is still alive and going relatively strong, because it focus on PVP and not PVE. If it were PVE, WoW would have killed it long ago. Just like what happened to SWG, they went PVE a la WoW, and failed miserably.

IMO, the next big MMORPG will be one that concentrate solely on PVP, not on PVE. The fantasy MMORPG genre has reached stagnation. Even faster than the WW2 FPS and RTS genres.

Truer words have not been spoken. Which is also why it's sad that Tabula Rasa pretty much failed. It wanted to break the mold and have a futuristic shoot 'em up MMO, but it just didn't work out.

I've never been able to get into MuMORPeGas very long. I don't know, they just can't keep my interest. I've never enjoined the continuous amount of farming you have to do in most MMOs. I've been thinking about EVE, but I'm still debating.

EVE has a free 14 day trial, so you can do less thinking and more trying out :P

SWG though to be fair pissed off the majority of their playerbase with the whole NGE fiasco, i still do play it though and things are a lot better and more like pre NGE than ever.

Yeah I know, I actually will probably try out EVE's 14 day trial. From what I've seen it seems pretty interesting. Sadly the real game is out of empire with all the corporations and you won't get there with enough time to be emersed in all the political dealings of the corporations.

i don't like their 10 years training time to get all the skills

Well you aren't supposed to get all the skills. You know, focus on the job you want to do and the strengths you want for your ships.

Just for the record, there is (and has been) a MMORTS out for QUITE some time. In fact, I was playing this back in the late 90's. http://www.mankind.net/

I haven't played in YEARS, but we are talking about a huge universe here. Planets, systems, sectors, galaxy. Each planet has resources of different types, and you can build at the planet or solar system level. Anyway, I don't play any more, but for someone looking for that...

I'd love to see a new version, or SoaSE go MM. Mankind is very much like SoaSE would be.

MMORTS!!!!!!

I hate you all, I've been dreaming of an mmorts for years now and here you are, posting the idea for it before I get to!

Stardock really would have a massive chance to shine if they could get Ironclad to start tossing the idea around for such a game.

I played eve for over 2 years+ and I totally agree with what the guy said who played 3 years about it being seriously lacking. Dont get me wrong sometimes I reactivate my account when I need a change but the time system is a bit of a fees scam in my view even training all your learning skils, the PVE is about as boring as it gets repetitive and dull.

People get sold on all the corporate buzzwords about virtual worlds and such but when you take a step back Eve excels in graphics , PVP, corp wars , thats really the only reason to play and I also beleive that immplementing a PvP system is easier than immplementing a top grade PVE system that has good replay value.

Thats why WoW like it or lump it is the most succesful because they do not force players to wait 3 years for some end game that may not even appeal to them, there content is there right from the start and getting better and people that are in game working hard can prosper.(Also if it doesnt appeal to people they can just leave , minimum of cash lost however if you play eve for 3 years Im sure most people after spending that kind of money are just going to tell themselves its great and there in lies that corporate genius that everyone falls for)

Now eves line on the time system I imagine would be that it puts all players on an even playing field, people thats out working all day can still keep up with a person that plays 24/7. Now if you think their motives are nobel , you must be buttoned up the back, gee its nothing to do with forced fees , yeah right and also theres a clear many flaws with the time system that any can see with a 5 second think about it!

Make know mistake though I do enjoy eve from time to time but its dire in some respects and it annoys me how people make excuses for the gross bad PVE and saying to newbies what really boils down to pay fees for 3 years to get skills and you will then really enjoy the game, an allure for CCP to net extortianate amounts of cash for the bland 3 year skill wait. People constantly make excuses and proclimations for this but if people were just honest from the start and told CCP we want PVE 1000 times better and asked for features right throughout the game, eve could have been something really special catering for all.

Actually I was going to say I agree its a mature audience and for the most part it is but this is another sort of eve saying because it is said so much it implys everyones reasnable, which is definatly not the case , in fact there are some fools.

Also you have 2 character slots , one of which is useless except for scamming people in game as you can only train 1 skill per character per time so say you skilled both your talking 6 years+ of fees to get semi high rank for both characters. Now with a game with shocklingly bland aspects to be asking users to pay double fees for 4 character slots which you can only really skill 2 at the same time is shocking in this day and age.

Im sorry if I sound annoyed its just Im looking for a decent space MMO at the momment and none of the big publishers have done what many have been asking for this is a proper real time space MMORPG with planetory landings, land and space quests, epic virtual planets on and off planets + space stations etc with masses of content. Point is I have looked for 1 month for a decent space MMO the last month and couldnt find one . I also never thought I would say this but I am now also sick to death with the fantasy themed MMO and why everyone is banging on about LOTRO I dont know! Just play WoW or if you claim its for kids go play EQ 2 or lineage 2 or SWG which are much deeper games later on.

Just to finally say on MMOS in general well guild wars and many other decent MMOS have proved the theory wrong that fees are justified in this day and age, sorry for all the cynisism its just beleive it or not I in the past loved MMOS but its gives companies a way to get money for crap in many cases. Plus maybe I just see the fantasy themes MMOS for what they are now and well space MMOS unfortunatly there is yet to be a company that makes a space MMO that captures people equivalently to the likes of elite, freelancer was a step in the right direction but eons to short term, people are screaming for a similiar model but with 100* more longevity and depth but the industry are content forcing crap down our throats :)

I believe Cryptic who are doing Star Trek: Online, will have those features(however, possibly to a degree)

But yes, a SOASE MMORPG would be interesting although i don't see how it would differ from STO MMORPG, which already has a story to be built upon

An SOASE MMORPG, in my mind would be something along the lines of:

You're a captain of a Scout Frigate and you go through various reconnessence(excuse my incorrect spelling) missions and then you're promoted to Cobalt Light Frigate and then so forth.

Now, the more flamboyant aspect would be that you're a mining facility worker, or a colonist and you then procede to work on a scout class frigate and then we get back to the first thought. I'd like to hear about what they think would be implemented and possibly, a storyline.

Why an MMORPG? Why not an MMORTS. If they could make one it could be extremely satisfying.

World of Warcraft will die eventually. And the 40k mmo should be out in a few years. I can't really see Sins in mmorpg form but the background isn't developed enough for me really...
